Sul Ross State (0-1) at Texas Lutheran (1-0)

When: 1 p.m. Saturday at Bulldog Stadium in Seguin, Texas

Broadcast: TLU Athletics

The Matchup: Texas Lutheran survived a scare against an improving Howard Payne in week one by converting a late two-point conversion for a 39-38 win. It was coach Ricky Matt’s first victory in his Bulldogs tenure but certainly will not be the last.

Sul Ross State may have the most brutal schedule of any team at any level this spring. The Lobos opened against McMurry and now play TLU, Howard Payne, and Hardin-Simmons. The Lobos will try to use this challenging schedule to prepare for the fall.

Players to Watch:

SRSU - Clayton Maxwell, QB, Sr, San Antonio, Texas (O’Connor HS)

Ozias Wright, RB, So, Killen, Texas (Shoemaker HS)

Xavier Minjarez, DB, So, Odessa, Texas (Odessa HS)

TLU - Seth Cosme, QB, So, Angelton, Texas (Angelton HS)

Mason Perkins, WR, Sr, Burleson, Texas (Arlington Martin HS)

James Bell, DB, Sr, Houston, Texas (Lamar HS)

Key to Victory: Sul Ross State’s defense was solid in week one but the Lobos will be tested this week by a young and talented Bulldogs offense. The Lobos will need to force some turnovers, keep the score close, and try to win the game late.

The TLU offense was good in the opening week but allowing Howard Payne 468 total yards of offense must be a concern for the coaching staff. The Bulldogs coaching staff will see they made the proper adjustments over the last two weeks.

Prediction: TLU by 30
