Southern Nazarene (0-0) at UT Permian Basin (0-0)
When: 1 p.m. Saturday at Grande Stadium in Midland, Texas
Broadcast: Lone Star Conference Digital Network
The Matchup: UTPB took a major step forward in 2019 setting a program record with four wins. The Falcons will use this spring to replace key defensive players including All-American linebacker Chris Hoad.
Falcons coach Justin Carrigan has a young roster with only eight seniors. His young squad meets a Southern Nazarene team who was 2-9 in 2019. UTPB may be very young but they are very talented.
Players to Watch:
UTPB - Donta Stuart, S, So, Waco, Texas (Waco La Vega HS)
Clayton Roberts, QB, Jr, Houston, Texas (St. Pius X)
D’Ondre Robinson, DB, Sr, Orange, N.J. (Marist HS)
SNU - Gage Porter, QB, Jr, Elk City, Okla. (Elk City HS)
Trenton Smith, DB, Jr, Rowlett, Texas (Garland HS)
Dylan Meador, LB, Jr, Piedmont, Okla. (Piedmont HS)
Key to Victory: The Falcons may have a young team but they are not short on experience. The offense should be improved this season with Roberts seeing a lot of playing time in 2019.
Southern Nazarene quarterback Gage Porter will provide a challenge for the UTPB defense with the dual-threat standout leading the team with 751 yards rushing and completing 58 percent of his pass attempts in 2019.
Prediction: UTPB by 17
