Each week Dave Campbell’s Texas Football staff gives their power rankings of the small college football teams in Texas.

Note: Teams are measured against the overall strength of their conference. Only teams that have played are ranked.

  1. Mary Hardin-Baylor (1-0) Last Week: 1 - I join the rest of the state of Texas hoping for good weather this week and a full schedule. The Cru is scheduled to have their home opener. NEXT: vs Southwestern at noon Feb. 27th.

  2. Tarleton (1-1) Last Week: 6 - Texans made a statement last week defeating New Mexico State at the Sun Bowl in El Paso. Message received. NEXT: vs Dixie State at 2 p.m. Feb. 27th.

  3. Trinity (2-0) Last Week: 2 - The Tigers fell victim to the weather last week and this week is a scheduled bye. We do not envy those forced to adjust to these unusual times. NEXT: vs Hendrix at 10 a.m. Mar. 6th

  4. East Texas Baptist (2-0) Last Week: 3 - ETBU is one of only three teams to play more than one game so far this spring. That works to the Tigers advantage. NEXT: at Louisiana College at 1 p.m. Feb. 27th

  5. Texas Lutheran (1-0) Last Week: 4 - The Bulldogs had a scheduled bye last week so that took away one concern from last week. TLU will have its home opener this week. NEXT: vs. Sul Ross State at 1 p.m. Feb. 27th.

  6. Howard Payne (0-1) Last Week: 5 - The Yellow Jackets had a strong showing against a good opponent to open the season. When they finally hit the field next, it will have been at least three weeks between games. NEXT: at Sul Ross State at TBA Mar. 6th.

  7. Austin College (0-1) Last Week: 6 - The ‘Roos are another team who had a scheduled bye last week and will now meet the team they were scheduled to meet two weeks ago. NEXT: at Hendrix at noon Feb. 27th.

  8. Southwestern (0-1) Last Week: 7 - The good news for the Pirates was an extra week before meeting one of the top teams in the country. The bad news was the weather did not allow for many practices. NEXT: at Mary Hardin-Baylor at noon Feb. 27th.

  9. Wayland Baptist (1-2, 0-1) Last Week: N/A - The Pioneers had two games in the fall to prepare for a spring conference season. Unfortunately, the Pioneers fell to Oklahoma Panhandle State, a team they had defeated in the fall. NEXT: vs Lyon at 2 p.m. Feb. 27th.

  10. McMurry (1-0) Last Week: 8 - Everything I said above about Southwestern applies to the War Hawks with an addendum. McMurry meets its crosstown rival who has not played a game yet this spring. NEXT: vs Hardin-Simmons at 1 p.m. Feb. 27th.

  11. Sul Ross State (0-1) Last Week: 9 - The Lobos were bit by the weather bug this week after avoiding it the previous week. The challenge for SRSU this week is stout. NEXT: at Texas Lutheran at 1 p.m. Feb. 27th.
