The remnants of a bad year for many people continues to linger into 2021. Seven games were on the Texas small college schedule last week until a winter vortex descended upon our great state dropping temperatures to record lows for many places.

With the threat of snow and ice causing possible travel concerns, only three of the games were played leaving many football coaches, players, and fans across the state disappointed.

Eight games are on the schedule this week, including the long-awaited debut of Lamar coach Blane Morgan and the beginning of what Sam Houston hopes is a national title run on the road against a UIW team seeking a return to the FCS playoffs.

There are some very intriguing matchups in Division III this week. Look for previews of every small college game later this week.

However, I think it is time to give serious consideration to Dave Campbell’s managing editor Greg Tepper’s idea to declare war on the weather.

Maybe that is something the Texas legislature can begin to discuss during its current session.

All kidding aside, stay safe and warm this week!
