Austin Westlake 2023 WR Jaden Greathouse (6’3, 190) and his Chaparrals have been dominant this season as they are now preparing for a showdown with Southlake Carroll in the 6A Division I State Championship on Saturday.

Greathouse and his Chaps are coming off of one the biggest games of the year as they dispatched the former kings of 6A in Galena Park North Shore this past weekend, 24-21.

“Nothing but joy. I couldn’t be more proud of my teammates. Every single one of them balled out. Obviously, we’re going to go through adversity, but also we’re going to put adversity onto the other team. Just so proud of them. I could not ask for anything more,” Greathouse said after Westlake’s win over North Shore.

Greathouse was somewhat limited in a game that turned into a knockdown drag-out fight. Still, he’s had a productive sophomore campaign, which has resulted in quite a bit of attention in his recruitment.

For him, the process of seeing his recruitment pick up steam has been something he has embraced. However, he’s trying to keep a focus on the main goal, which is the current season at hand.

“It’s been amazing. Every day is a blessing, but right now, I’m just focused on the season. I can’t get too ahead of myself. I still have two years of high school football. I’m not done yet,” Greathouse stated.

At this point, the Westlake wideout has only reported four offers. With that said, it’s a solid start as Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas have all extended offers.

Greathouse is an intriguing prospect because it’s still unclear where his future on the field will be. As of now, he fits as a big-body receiver which is becoming less and less uncommon. If he continues to grow and fill out, he could eventually grow into a flex tight end position.

As a freshman, Greathouse finished the 2019 season as the District 25-6A Co-Offensive Newcomer of the Year, helping Westlake win the 6A Divison II State Championship.

A year later, he’s looking to do the same thing in an even larger role.

“We have the same plan as usual. We don’t change anything up for anybody. We have a plan set up in place and we have a tradition here. Nothing is different,” the Westlake product said in regard to preparation for this week’s game.

Austin Westlake is scheduled to play Southlake Carroll on Saturday at 7:00 pm. Westlake is trying to achieve back-to-back titles at the 6A level.

This is their 10th title game appearance in program history.
