North Texas quarterback Jason Bean has entered the transfer portal, according to a report from 247Sports' Matthew Brune.  Bean will likely have up to three years of eligibility remaining.

The sophomore from Mansfield Lake Ridge started seven games for the Mean Green in 2020. He completed 54 percent of his passes for 1,131 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. Bean also ran for 346 yards and five scores.

Bean looked like the quarterback of the future after completing 11-of-18 passes for 217 yards and three touchdowns in a big win over Houston Baptist. After that game, he only completed more than 60 percent of his passes against Middle Tennessee.

Bean's decision means that Austin Aune will be the presumed starter at quarterback in 2021. The 27-year-old sophomore completed 54.6 percent of his passes for 1,650 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions. The former Mansfield Lake Ridge star led his team to the Class 5A Division I quarterfinals as a senior.

Aune will compete for the starting job with Kason Martin, Will Kuehne and Kentucky transfer Amani Gilmore. The Mean Green also add Pawhuska, Okla., recruit Bryce Drummond.
