Former Oklahoma tight end Grant Calcaterra announced on Wednesday that he will play his final year of college football at SMU.

Before retiring due to concussion issues, Calcaterra was a dynamic tight end option for the Sooners. He caught 6 passes for 396 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore in Lincoln Riley's offense. Calcaterra earned All-Big 12 First Team honors for his performance.

After a year off, the Rancho San Margarita, Calif. native decided to come out of retirement. He initally committed to Auburn, but has now flipped to SMU after Gus Malzahn was relieved of duties.

Calcaterra reunites with former teammate QB Tanner Mordecai. The latter announced that he was heading to SMU as a transfer over the offseason.

SMU has used the tight end position very effectively under Sonny Dykes. Over the past two seasons, Kylen Granson posted 78 catches for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns. Granson is expected to be selected in the 2021 NFL Draft.
