Katy (12-1) vs Buda Hays Consolidated (10-3)

2 p.m. Saturday at Waco’s McLane Stadium

Katy finished off its demolition of the 6A DII Region III bracket by blowing out overmatched Clear Falls, 51-14.

Davis brothers Jalen and Seth Davis got behind that big, physical Katy offensive line and churned out big yardage to control the tempo of the game from the jump. They combined for 290 yards on the ground and four touchdowns.

Hays Consolidated, a third place team in their own district, has caught fire in the playoffs and may have put together its most complete game of the year in last week’s 38-10 win over Austin Vandegrift.

QB Durand Hill was the key contributor for the Rebels rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for three touchdowns as Coach Les Goad’s tinkered Slot-T offense out of the pistol formation is showing they can indeed hurt teams throwing the football.

The matchup of Katy’s always tough defense going head-to-head against the Hays unique offensive system, which combines the vaunted Slot-T offense with the pistol offense, is what we’ll be watching for.

Katy’s defense typically feasts on one dimensional teams and their big and physical offensive line will wear down a smaller Hays defense in a game that could get lopsided late.

Stepp’s Pick: Katy by 21
