Cedar Park (13-0) vs Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (13-0)

7:30 p.m. Friday at San Antonio’s Alamo Stadium

It’s battle of unbeatens in the Alamo City Friday night as Cedar Park looks to advance to their fourth state title game in school history, while Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial looks to become the first school from Corpus Christi ISD to play for a state title since 1963.

Cedar Park dispatched playoff nemesis Manvel in a 52-42 thriller as QB Ryder Hernandez threw for 381 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Timberwolves. Hernandez topped 300 passing yards in the first half, while in the second half CPHS relied more on the running game and a couple of timely defensive stops to wrap up the Region III title.

Veterans Memorial didn’t make the Corpus Christi showdown for the regional title very competitive as the Eagles rolled Corpus Christi Flour Bluff, 49-14.

Senior QB Carter Senterfitt was the catalyst for VMHS with 166 yards passing and two touchdowns, and 152 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Joseph Meador got things rolling for Vets in a big way returning the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and picked off a pass for the defense as well.

The Vets defense was outstanding on the afternoon holding FBHS in check in the decisive first half where the Eagles had the game put away by halftime with a 35-7 lead.

This Vets team is not to be overlooked; they’ve got the firepower to score with Cedar Park. But there are questions about the Eagles defense and the quality of competition they played in Region IV.

Cedar Park pulls away late and wins a high scoring affair.

Stepp’s Pick: Cedar Park by 12
