Top QB Hits Pause on Texas Tech After Staff Changes

Eastland QB Behren Morton (6'2, 175) hit the pause button on his recruitment process in the wake of the news that Texas Tech fired offensive coordinator David Yost.

"With the recent changes in regards to the Texas Tech offensive coordinator role I have decided to take some time to reflect on the situation before moving forward," Morton posted on Twitter.

"I have a strong passion for Texas Tech football. I value Coach Wells and his staff, and I believe the future is very bright in Raiderland. My family and I would appreciate everyone understanding our position during this time."

Morton also has offers from schools like Baylor, TCU, Texas A&M and USC. Several other programs are also showing a strong interest in the Elite 11 quarterback, who is rated as a DCTF four-star.

Final Decision Coming for The Mountain

Katy Taylor OG Bryce Foster (6'5, 330) announced that he would be making his commitment on Dec. 18., the final day that prospects can sign a letter of intent in the Early Signing period window.

Foster has a top five of LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Oregon and Oklahoma.

Foster was recently named a DCTF five-star prospect, making him the first-ever true interior offensive lineman to earn the honor.

Prediction: Oklahoma

Foster has said on multiple occasions that he likes to keep people guessing, so this one could end up being a surprise.

So, stay tuned!

Baylor Adds DCTF Hot 100 Athlete

Houston St. Thomas ATH Cameron Bonner (5'11, 175) pulled the trigger and committed to Baylor on Monday, giving the Bears an excellent addition to the commitment list.

Bonner checks in as the No. 90 prospect in the DCTF Hot 100 and could make an impact in college on either side of the football.

Player Breakdown: A player with roughly 20 offers at the time of his commitment, Bonner is a quick athlete who could make for a solid slot in the right offense but has the skills of a lockdown cornerback as well. Bonner is an athlete with track speed, good hands and the length and wingspan to excel on offense or defense.

Texas A&M Lands a Pair of Four-Star Powerhouses

With just days left to the first Early Signing Period, the Aggies made waves by reeling in two new four-star commitments in DeSoto DE Shemar Turner (6'3, 260) and Fort Bend Christian Academy OG Remington Strickland (6'4, 295)

Turner is rated as the No. 11 prospect in the DCTF Hot 100 and picked A&M over offers from schools like Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas.

Player Breakdown: Turner started his high school career off playing linebacker but developed into a real mismatch nightmare up front. He is categorized as a strongside defensive end, but he can line up all over the defensive front to create scheme mismatches.

Strickland is rated as the No. 26 prospect in the DCTF Hot 100 and picked the Aggies over offers from schools like Oklahoma and Texas.

Player Breakdown: Strickland may be the most impressive physical specimen in the 2021 in-state offensive line class. He is a nasty run blocker who plays with high levels of effort and physicality. Remington's punch stops defenders in their tracks.

TCU Adds 2021 Sleeper

Mansfield Lake Ridge CB Marvin Covington (5'11, 185) had a huge senior season that led to offers from schools like Baylor, Houston, Texas Tech and Mississippi State.

Still, it was an offer from TCU that grabbed his attention and he committed to the Horned Frogs over the rest.

Powered by a good showing in 2020, Covington is rated as the No. 6 CB in the state in the 2021 cycle.

Player Breakdown: A strong senior season helped colleges identify Covington as a prospect on the rise. He is a cornerback who has the size to match up well with taller wide receivers. He is continuing to make strides in his development but shows impressive flashes on tape.

UTSA Loses a Few High School Commits

The Roadrunners lost commitments from Houston Heights CB Brian Mayes (6'1, 165), Cy-Ranch WR Edwin Smith (6'4, 180) and Cornerstone Christian ATH Nahamani Harris (6'2, 185)

UTSA figures to be a significant player in the NCAA transfer portal as it looks for college-ready players to add to the roster for the 2021 season.

UTSA is 7-4 and bowl eligible under the guidance of first-year head coach Jeff Traylor.
