Ninety miles northeast of Amarillo, where State Highway 15 intersects with State Highway 207 in the Texas panhandle sits the town of Spearman, Texas. 

The county seat for Hansford County is home to roughly 3,300 people. 

However, one of those individuals is the next big name on the recruiting scene in West Texas: Spearman 2022 ATH Brenan Thompson (5'11, 165).

For two seasons now, the DCTF four-star has done a little bit of everything for his Spearman Lynx football team. When 2021 QB Jack Wilkerson (5'9, 180) went down with a shoulder injury, Thompson filled the void at the signal-caller position. Despite not being a natural quarterback, the highly touted prospect put together quite the highlight reel.

A season later, Thompson has returned to his more natural role as a slot receiver. His game-breaking speed and shiftiness with the ball in his hands make him a challenging target for opposing defenders to gather and bring down. 

Along with making plays on offense, the West Texas product also impacts defense in the secondary and is a dangerous return man. 

He's a genuine swiss army knife type of talent.

Since March, Thompson has racked up 31 offers from about every program imaginable across the country. 

Illinois State offered him first on March 15th. Not too long after that, Baylor established itself as the first in-state program to extend an offer. With programs like Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas and a long list of others continuing to follow in their footsteps in offering the Spearman product.

Thompson is still somewhat in the early stages of his recruitment, so he is still trying to talk to every school that has shown interest in him. He plans on refining his list of schools at some point after the season but has yet to do so. 

"I've been talking to everybody—all thirty-one. Clemson is in there too, so all thirty-two. I've been trying to keep in contact with everybody," the Spearman product said regarding his current recruitment situation. "With it being playoffs and school, it's kind of hard to control everything. Hopefully, sometime in December, I'll start focusing down and I'll get a Top Ten or Twelve out,

While Clemson has not offered the 2022 athlete, they appear to be showing strong interest in him. Clemson has the luxury of being more methodical in their process of identifying talent and, at this point, has not offered many recruits in the 2022 class. This can be credited to their name power and success within the college football landscape.

As far as in-state schools, he listed Tom Herman, Andre Coleman and Jay Valai as points of contact for him with the University of Texas. 

"We always talk every week, and they always say good luck every week. Our relationship is really good with them," Thompson said.

All signs are pointing to Texas and Oklahoma as early front runners to win Thompson's services. With that said, the West Texas product is open to the idea of playing anywhere just as long as it feels like home for him and his family. 

"I want me and my family to feel like that's home," Thompson said. "Wherever I go, it could be across the country; it could be right here at home at (Texas) Tech. So anywhere I go, I want to feel 'home' and pursue that."
