Week 13 wasn’t the prettiest week of college football, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t big standouts. The state’s two best running backs helped cement signature wins for the two programs still chasing conference titles. Additionally, a quarterback turned back the clock and had one more signature performance in a tough season. 

Finding the superlatives of the weekend takes much more than just seeing a final score. It’s about standing out and exceeding expectations in a way that forces the state of Texas to take notice. Here are five players who earned those honors in Week 13. 

RB Sincere McCormick, UTSA (Converse Judson)

Should we just name this article the Sincere McCormick Helmet Stickers of the Week? The sophomore from San Antonio is the most untouchable player in this state, and saved his best ever performance for an in-state foe. 

McCormick set a program record with 251 rushing yards on an absurd 10.9 yards per carry against North Texas. He added two touchdowns in an easy 49-17 win. There’s no limit of what McCormick can accomplish at UTSA – and now it might end with a Conference USA Championship Game. 

RB Isaiah Spiller, Texas A&M (Klein Collins)

When Isaiah Spiller touches the ball, Texas A&M wins football games. On a day where LSU was selling out to stop the Aggies’ passing offense, Spiller kept the ball moving and pushed Texas A&M to an ugly win. 

Spiller rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown on 5.2 yards per carry. Texas A&M averaged just 2.8 yards on every other play where Spiller did not touch the ball. Spiller’s development has been at the center of Texas A&M’s consistency this season. 

QB Charlie Brewer, Baylor (Lake Travis)

It turns out Charlie Brewer has some magic left in the tank. After a series of poor offensive performances, Brewer simply refused to let the Bears lose against Kansas State on Saturday. 

Brewer completed 31-of-39 passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns in the come-from-behind victory over the Wildcats. He also added56 rushing yards and two scores. He played especially well in the second half, leading five scoring drives in six attempts. More importantly, he looked confident getting out of the pocket and throwing downfield to R.J. Sneed – could Sneed’s emergence help be the difference in a way that Denzel Mims’ presence was the past three seasons? 

WR Erik Ezukanma, Texas Tech (Keller Timber Creek)

Ezukanma has quietly and steadily been improving, but he saved the best performance of his young career for one of the best defenses in the Big 12. The Metroplex product caught seven passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns and nearly led a Red Raider comeback in Stillwater. 

After fumbling the first play of the second half, Ezukanma went off. He caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Alan Bowman two drives later and added a 32-yard touchdown later. Ezukanma added a 16-yard reception to help set up a TD late to cut the lead to one score. It wasn’t enough, but Ezukanma proved he is one of the best receivers in the Big 12. 

DL DeMarvin Leal, Texas A&M (Converse Judson)

Leal’s numbers in a dominant win over LSU don’t pop off the page – seven tackles, two quarterback hurries and a tackle for loss. However, he had a dominant game against the defending national champions. 

The sophomore from San Antonio exploded through LSU’s offensive line with amazing consistency and helped hold the Tigers to just 1.4 yards per carry. Leal was an elite recruit coming out of Converse Judson and has already started to overperform what anyone could have expected from a 20 year old, even against an LSU roster full of 5-star talent.
