Texas offensive tackle Sam Cosmi – a potential first round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft – has opted out of the final two games of the season, per multiple reports.

Cosmi will turn his attention to focusing on the upcoming NFL Draft. He will try and end a six-year drought of first round picks from Texas, dating back to Malcom Brown's selection as the final pick of the first round by New England in 2015.

The 6-foot-7, 309-pound junior started 34 games for the Longhorns and was an All-Texas College First Team pick in 2019. Twenty-five of his starts were at the signature left tackle spot. Cosmi was consistently rated as one of the most consistent linemen in the Big 12 over his career in Austin.

The timing comes just two games after the Longhorns' Big 12 title hopes were dashed by a 23-20 loss to Iowa State. Texas sits at 5-3 with no easy path to the championship. The Longhorns have not earned a trip to the Big 12 Championship Game since 2018, when Cosmi was a freshman.

The Longhorns have two games left against Kansas State and Kansas. However, it's unclear whether there could be more opt-outs at Texas in the coming days.
