It was a light week of college football in Texas, but there were still big performances. One quarterback performance stood above as perhaps the best in program history. Another defensive lineman posted ridiculous production.

Finding the superlatives of the weekend takes much more than just seeing a final score. It’s about standing out and exceeding expectations in a way that forces Texas to take notice. Here are five players who earned those honors in Week 12.

QB Brady McBride, Texas State (Coppell)

Texas State has been desperately searching for just one game, one moment, to hang onto heading into 2020. Finally against Arkansas State, Brady McBride gave Texas State fans some hope. McBride completed 71 percent of his passes for 443 yards and five touchdowns, which ranks as the best game in Texas State history against an FBS opponent. McBride has played exceptionally well whenever he’s gotten all the first-team quarterback reps.

DT Dion Novil, North Texas (Abilene Wylie)

It’s almost impossible to play better at nose tackle that Novil did in the first half against Rice. Playing against a physical Rice offensive line, Novil instituted his will both in pass and rush defense to hold the Owls underwater. Novil led the team with eight tackles and set personal bests with five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. He also added a sack on Collins for good measure. Novil should be sending film from this game to every NFL team as he looks to the next level.

WR Austin Trammell, Rice (Klein)

The senior Trammell is quietly putting together a tremendous senior season and building a strong relationship with quarterback Mike Collins. Even in a loss against North Texas, Trammell caught six passes for 116 yards and a touchdown. Ultimately, Rice’s offense struggled because they struggled to protect Collins long enough to get Trammell the ball. Every single play, Trammell was winning his matchup and giving the Owls a chance. Still, Trammell deserves to be talked about as one of the state’s best wide receivers.

RB Sincere McCormick, UTSA (Converse Judson)

When you’re fighting for your sixth win, why not lean on exactly what works? At UTSA, that means handing the ball to Sincere McCormick and getting the heck out of the way. McCormick rushed the ball 32 times for 173 yards and two touchdowns in his return to the field, absolutely dominating Southern Miss in a 23-20 win. Now, McCormick is the second running back in America to cross the 1,000-yard plateau and stands alone with the leading rushing season in program history.
