UTSA defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix has been placed on administrative leave, the school announced on Saturday. He is not coaching against UTEP.

"Tyrone Nix has been placed on administrative leave in connection with an internal investigation," UTSA said in a statement. "In order to ensure and protect the integrity of the process, we will not be making any additional comments at this time."

Nix joined UTSA as one of the most experienced members of Jeff Traylor's first staff. He previously worked as defensive coordinator at South Carolina, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee.

With Nix sidelined, UTSA has just three full-time defensive coaches on the field against UTEP: defensive line coach Rod Wright, cornerbacks coach Nick Graham and safeties coach Jess Loepp.

Loepp served as primary playcaller during the 52-21 win over UTEP
