Class 6A

Stock Up

Klein Oak: Klein Oak fell off the radar after a season opening loss to Spring, but with the way the Lions have played to start the season, that loss doesn’t look so bad now. Jason Glenn’s squad made quite the statement this week with a 26-0 shutout win over a highly regarded Klein Collins squad. That win vaults Klein Oak into the state rankings and puts them in prime position early in the District 15-6A race.

Stock Down

Rockwall-Heath: The Hawks were looking to break into the state rankings in their District 10-6A opener, but Heath’s offense, which had been so dynamic all year, had some struggles Friday night In a 38-27 loss to arch-rival Rockwall to fall to 3-2 on the season.

5A Division I

Stock Up

Baytown Lee: The Ganders are flying high at 4-1 and 2-1 in District 9-4A play after taking down GCCISD rival Goose Creek Memorial 28-14 on Friday night. Baytown Lee still has tough games left against Port Arthur Memorial and Beaumont United, but they are in solid playoff positioning in District 9-5A Division I.

Stock Down

McAllen Rowe: The Warriors hoped dropping down to Class 5A would bring about consistent winning, instead it’s brought an 0-2 start as Rowe has dropped back to back games to 5A-Division II teams after last week’s 34-24 loss to Mission Sharyland.

5A Division II

Stock Up

Longview Pine Tree: The Pirates remain unbeaten and they served notice to all of East Texas Friday night in taking down Marshall, 24-7, in their 9-5A Division II opener. Kerry Lane’s squad has improved each year he’s been at the helm and this may be his best team yet. Pine Tree is now eyeing a showdown with Texarkana Texas High in two weeks for the potential district title.

Stock Down

Bryan Rudder: After a strong 4-0 start to the season, the Rangers had their chance for a statement win against powerful Huntsville. Although Rudder was competitive, they fell 36-17 to fall to 4-1. This is still a potential playoff team, but Rudder still has work to do to take that next step.

4A Division I

Stock Up

Decatur: The Eagles started the season 1-4 and appeared destined for a “down” year by their standards, but Mike Fuller’s squad has turned the corner in District 4-4A Division I play and Friday night was the big one as Decatur knocked off state ranked Springtown, 35-28, to take sole possession of first place in the district. They can win the outright district title this week with a win over Wichita Falls Hirschi.

Stock Down

Fredericksburg: A season that started out with so much promise for the Billies is turning into a nightmare in 13-4A Division I. FHS finished their non-district slate with an impressive 4-1 resume, but they’ve dropped three straight district games and last week’s 20-14 loss to Canyon Lake is easily the most damaging to Fredericksburg’s playoff hopes. FHS now has to win their last two games and get a lot of help to get into the post-season at this point.

4A Division II

Stock Up

Poteet: The Aggies earned themselves a huge district win and gave themselves the inside track to second place in 14-3A Division I by knocking off Marion, 29-22. Darby House’s squad improved to 6-2 and 3-1 in district play with two weeks left. Poteet has found Class 3A to their liking thus far, doubling last year’s win total.

Stock Down

Wimberley: The Texans are still a force in 4A-Division II Region IV and could easily repeat as regional champions, but they fell out of the state rankings this week after a 24-22 loss to Geronimo Navarro in the 14-4A Division II title game. Doug Warren’s squad has a tough non-district game this week against Midland Greenwood and then they’ll close the year with Austin Achieve.

3A Division I

Stock Up

Winnsboro: In their annual grudge match with arch-rival Mount Vernon, it was Josh Finney’s squad who got the last laugh as the Red Raiders stunned unbeaten and state ranked Mount Vernon, 30-28, to put the 5-3A Division I race into a tailspin with two weeks left in the season. Winnsboro, Mount Vernon, Pottsboro and Mineola all sit at 4-1 with Winnsboro still facing a trip to Pottsboro and next week Pottsboro traveling to Mount Vernon. This district race is going to be fun down the stretch.

Stock Down

Comfort: The Bobcats went from being in the drivers seat to second place to a possible bi-district game with powerful Jourdanton after falling in a shocking 42-21 loss to Lago Vista Friday night. Comfort needs to win out down the stretch and hope for a little help from winless Luling to move out of the fourth place spot.

3A Division II

Stock Up

Hooks: The Hornets took another step towards locking down a playoff spot with a 28-7 win over DeKalb to improve to 3-1 in District 10-3A Division II play. Hooks will have a chance to play for a share of the district title next week when they host Daingerfield.

Stock Down

Friona: The Chieftans are finding out what we all already knew, that 3-3A Division II is a brutal district. After a 5-1 start and talk of being state-ranked, Friona has dropped two straight to Childress and Canadian in blowout fashion to fall to 5-3. It doesn’t get much easier for Friona this week as they travel to Spearman.

2A Division I

Stock Up

Ozona: The Lions took care of business Friday night with a dominant 55-20 win over Harper to improve to 6-2 and 3-0 in district play. That sets up their battle at home against Mason for the 14-2A Division I title.

Stock Down

Grapeland: Sfter roaring out of the gates at 6-1, the Sandies have dropped two straight games in district play with last week’s 38-34 loss to Centerville being especially damaging. Now Grapeland is staring at a possible fourth place finish in district play if they can’t end the regular eason with a win against a tough Jewett Leon squad.

2A Division II

Stock Up

Rocksprings: The Angoras, despite having one of the smallest 11-man enrollments in the state of Texas still manage to hold their own against larger schools and they proved it once again Friday night upsetting Junction 24-16 to improve to 5-2 on the season and set themselves up for a chance to lock up a third place spot in 14-2A Division II.

Stock Down

Bovina: The Mustangs looked to be the team to beat in District 2-2A Division I, but they were upset last week by Smyer 38-33 in a game that likely decided the district championship.
