Dave Campbell's Texas Football is taking you through all the matchups you need to watch  in Week 8 of the college football season.

Early Window

Marquee Game: TCU vs. Oklahoma, 11 a.m. on ABC

The Horned Frogs have played three games so far and all were unpredictable in their own unique ways. Against Kansas State, the offensive line fell off a cliff. Against Iowa State, Max Duggan looked like the savior. Against Texas, the Frogs looked like Big 12 contenders.

Now against Oklahoma, the Horned Frogs offense will get a chance to get back on track and cause some trouble. We’ll find out quickly whether the bye week was enough to help TCU find some offense and eventually work its way back to the Big 12 conversation.

Other Games:

  • UTEP at Charlotte, 11 a.m. on ESPN+: The Miners missed a game last week against Southern Miss. Will UTEP’s surprisingly explosive offense have developed even more during the off weeks?

Afternoon Window

Marquee Game: Texas vs. Baylor, 2:30 p.m. on ESPN

In terms of pure unpredictability, this game ranks high on the list. The last time we watched Texas, the Longhorns were walking off the field in tatters following a four-overtime matchup against Oklahoma. There’s been more talk about singing the school song than fixing tackling issues during the bye week.

On the other side, Baylor lost a full week of practice while shutting down for COVID-19 issues. It’s unclear which players will even be available – Tom Herman’s staff resorted to scouring message boards to see if they could find information. In terms of pure chaos, Baylor-Texas will deliver.

Other Games:

  • Rice vs. Middle Tennessee, 2:30 p.m. on ESPN3: The Owls are finally back in action after a delayed start to the year. Will this Rice team make the strides we projected them to make over the offseason? Middle Tennessee is a manageable first test.

  • Texas Tech vs. West Virginia, 4:30 p.m. on ESPN2: The Red Raiders debut a new starting quarterback at home against the Mountaineers’ No. 1-ranked defense. Even when overmatched, Texas Tech has found ways to cause trouble against everyone they’ve played.

  • Houston at Navy, 2:30 p.m. on CBSSN: The Cougars have looked the part of a top 25 team through the first two weeks of the year. Navy’s option attack will provide a strong challenge for Houston’s elite defensive line.

Evening Window

Marquee Game: No. 16 SMU vs. No. 8 Cincinnati, 8 p.m. on ESPN2

If you watch one game over the entire college football weekend, for goodness sake, make it this one. The Mustangs are one of the nation’s best offenses. The Bearcats are one of the nation’s best defenses. Something has to give.

This is a major national matchup that will determine the driver’s seat both for the New Year’s Six and also an American Athletic Conference championship. If the Mustangs win, SMU is officially here to say. Keep an eye on the matchup between Shane Buechele and the nation’s No. 11 pass defense – multiple Bearcats will play on Sundays.

Other Games:

  • UTSA vs. Louisiana Tech, 7 p.m. on ESPNU: Frank Harris is back in the starting lineup and the Roadrunners’ rush attack has been thrilling to watch when he’s in. It’s the first winnable game UTSA has played in several weeks, so expectations should be high.

  • Texas State at BYU, 9:15 p.m. on ESPN: The Bobcats have survived all year by playing above their heads against better opponents. Against one of their best opponents, can that trend continue? We’ll find out quickly.
