No. 2 Sterling City (7-0, 1-0) at No. 1 Westbrook (7-0, 1-0)

Friday, 7:30

It’s finally here, the upstart who has held the top rankings since week three against the perennial playoff team.

Despite being the favorite, this will be a huge hurdle to climb for the Westbrook, who has not defeated the Eagles since Sterling City returned to six-man in 2008. Sterling City holds a 6-0 advantage head-to-head during this span and the Wildcats have never been within 18 points in any of those games. Sterling City has outscored the Westbrook by a score of 306-58 during the streak.

Westbrook head coach Homer Matlock is fairly calm about keeping his team in check before the big game.

“It’s still just a game,” Matlock said. “We want to enjoy the situation. We have done some good things to get to this point. Let’s try and keep improving on those and keep mistakes to a minimum.”

Sterling City head coach Trey Sisco is equally chill preparing his team for Friday night’s battle.

“I don’t have to tell them much,” Sisco said. “They know it’s a big game and that we are the underdogs.  Just work hard this week in practice and get prepared mentally.”

PREDICTION

Sterling City 44, Westbrook 42

Other games of interest

Evant at Lometa – A playoff spot is up for grabs here in Division 1 District 15.

Springlake Earth at Petersburg – Yeah! SLE finally gets to play a district game. Boo! Their first test is a trip to Petersburg. This could settle the district title, but there’s still a few weeks to go.

Buena Vista at Van Horn – Hopefully Van Horn will get to play. The Eagles have only played three games in their first season of six-man.

Valley at Happy – You put these teams together and what do you get (other than the nickname of a college town in central Pennsylvania)? A huge battle between two teams that are a combined 12-1 between them.
