UTEP football's matchup against Southern Miss will be postponed after the Golden Eagles experienced an outbreak of cases in the proram. The game was set for Saturday evening at the Sun Bowl. 

"We are disappointed for our student-athletes who will not get a chance to participate for a second straight weekend," Southern Miss athletic director Jeremy McClain said. "However, we will work with UTEP, in conjunction with Conference USA, to reschedule this game for later in the season." 

UTEP was one of the only programs in America – along with UTSA, Army, Arkansas State, Texas State and ULM – to have played five games to this point. The Miners are also one of only a handful of teams with 12 scheduled games this season. 

Both UTEP and Southern Miss have games every week through the end of the season, so a rescheduled matchup would likely need to be in December. It's unclear what the window will be for Conference USA to schedule games, but the Big 12 has tentatively scheduled matchups as late as Dec. 12. 

With Saturday postponed, UTEP's next game is now on the road against Charlotte on Oct. 24.
