Welcome to TXHSFB Inside The Numbers, a weekly look at Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s comprehensive computer rankings. Each week, we’ll take a deep dive into that week’s Texas high school football computer rankings to separate the signal from the noise.

CLASS 6A

At The Top… No new entries into the top 10, just a bit of shuffling. North Shore tumbles from No. 2 to No. 5, as Duncanville, Katy and Lake Travis edge up a spot. Southlake Carroll’s close loss to Rockwall doesn’t hurt them much, dropping to No. 8 from No. 6. Not a ton to see, honestly.

Fastest One-Week Riser: No. 113 San Antonio Taft (beat San Antonio Harlan 28-7, up 56 spots from No. 169)

Biggest One-Week Fallers: No. 119 San Antonio Harlan (lost to San Antonio Taft 28-7, down 56 spots from No. 63); No. 144 Weatherford (lost to Cleburne 48-31, down 40 spots from No. 104)

At The Top…An impressive debut for Lancaster vaults the Tigers up to the No. 2 spot in 5A Division I, while Longview also nudges up a couple of spots. New to the DI top ten is Amarillo Tascosa, who checks in at No. 12. Down in DII, Boerne Champion drops out of the top 10, making room for Lovejoy to find a way in. Liberty Hill, a newcomer to 5A, nudges up a couple of spots to No. 8.

CLASS 4A

At The Top… The biggest changes in Division I’s top 10 come in the form of two newcomers who finally have enough oomph to break through — No. 7 Canyon, now 6-0 on the year, and No. 10 Paris, who has rebounded nicely from a slow start. Wimberley’s the big mover in Division II, up five spots to the No. 3 slot, and keep an eye on No. 8 Glen Rose, who cracks the top 10 for the first time at 6-0.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DII No. 28 Ferris (beat Dallas Hillcrest 22-7, up 41 spots from No. 69)

CLASS 3A

At The Top… Well hello, Bushland! The computer was very impressed with the Falcons’ throttling of Muleshoe that they’re into the top 10 of Division I. Not much else to say in the big division. A little movement in DII, as Idalou jumps up to No. 6 and Spearman drops three spots down to No. 10, but overall, a pretty ho-hum week in 3A’s computer rankings.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DI No. 42 Orange Grove (beat Goliad 50-26, up 14 spots from No. 56)

Biggest One-Week Faller: DI No. 78 Goliad (lost to Orange Grove 50-26, down 18 spots from No. 60)

CLASS 2A

At The Top… In Division I, the bottom half of the top 10 is a bit wacky, as Timpson nudges up a spot to No. 7, Joaquin barrels into the top 10 at No. 8 and Cisco drops a few spots to No. 10. Only minor shuffling in Division II, like Muenster and Wheeler jumping Christoval for the Nos. 8 and 9 spots, respectively.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DI No. 29 Cooper (beat Bogata Rivercrest 24-21, up 14 spots from No. 43)

Biggest One-Week Faller: DI No. 52 Wolfe City (lost to Como-Pickton 20-7, down 13 spots from No. 39)

DIVISION II
Semifinals —
Hamlin over Wellington by 9; Mart over Christoval by 26
Final — Hamlin over Mart by 5

CLASS 1A

At The Top… Division I got turned upside-down by Borden County, who scored a huge win over Jonesboro to vault them all the way to the top spot from No. 8. Everything kind of stems off of that, with Union Hill leap-frogging one-time No. 1 Westbrook for the fifth spot, Knox City and Abbott finding their way into the top 10, and a few other things. Division II once again as a new No. 1, as Balmorhea re-takes the crown…interestingly, Calvert also jumps former No. 1 Richland Springs, dropping the Coyotes to No. 3. Anton continues its ascent, inching up to No. 7.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DI No. 30 Baird (beat Santa Anna 66-16, up 18 spots from No. 48)
