Welcome to TXHSFB Inside The Numbers, a weekly look at Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s comprehensive computer rankings. Each week, we’ll take a deep dive into that week’s Texas high school football computer rankings to separate the signal from the noise.

CLASS 6A

At The Top… The first week of action didn’t see a ton of changes in the top 10 of 6A — the same ten teams comprise it, though Atascocita moved from 10 to 8 despite not playing. Austin Westlake nudged up to No. 2, and Southlake Carroll benefitted by not playing, up to No. 4.

Fastest One-Week Riser: No. 148 Plano West (beat Wylie 28-0, up 60 spots from No. 208)

Biggest One-Week Faller: No. 125 Cy Falls (lost to Houston C.E. King 51-3, down 63 spots from No. 62)

Projected Title Games Right Now…
DIVISION I: Galena Park North Shore over Duncanville by 5
(last week: Galena Park North Shore over Duncanville by 1)
DIVISION II: Austin Westlake over Denton Guyer by 3 (last week: Austin Westlake over Denton Guyer by 1)

CLASS 5A

At The Top…In Division I, Richmond Foster’s mollywhopping of Lamar Consolidated bumped them up to No. 2, and Frisco Lone Star and Longview’s losses dropped them to Nos. 7 and 10, respectively. Cedar Park’s up a few spots to No. 5. In Division II, there’s a new No. 1 as the computer really liked Aledo’s blowout win over Weatherford, giving them the edge over Ennis. New to the Top 10: Boerne Champion and Huntsville, who earned the nod despite not playing (Barbers Hill’s loss opened up a spot).

Fastest One-Week Riser: DII No. 63 Abilene Wylie (beat Brownwood 28-7, up 38 spots from No. 101)

Biggest One-Week Faller: DI No. 62 Azle (lost to Fort Worth All Saints 70-50, down 40 spots from No. 22)

Projected Title Games Right Now…
DIVISION I: Denton Ryan over Richmond Foster by 8
(last week: Denton Ryan over Manvel by 5)
DIVISION II: Aledo over Fort Bend Marshall by 7 (last week: Ennis over Fort Bend Marshall by 2)

CLASS 4A

At The Top… Not a ton of changes in the Division I top ten, though there are a pair of newcomers in No. 8 El Campo (nice win over Houston St. Thomas) and No. 10 Canyon, who’s now 4-0 on the young season. Division II’s more interesting, as Carthage and Pleasant Grove both usurp a probably-artificially-high West Orange-Stark squad for the top two spots, and Iowa Park crashes back into the top 10 at No. 8. And yes, that means No. 1 Carthage vs. No. 2 Pleasant Grove this week.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DII No. 54 Ingleside (beat Corpus Christi John Paul II 40-21, up 17 spots from No. 71)

Biggest One-Week Faller: DI No. 43 Brownwood (lost to Abilene Wylie 28-7, down 25 spots from No. 43)

Highest-Ranked Winless Team: DI No. 11 Austin LBJ (0-1)

Lowest-Ranked Undefeated Team: DII No. 56 Sanger (5-0)

Projected Title Games Right Now…
DIVISION I: Argyle over Lampasas by 1
(unchanged from last week)
DIVISION II: Carthage over Pleasant Grove by 1 (last week: West Orange-Stark over Pleasant Grove by 1)

CLASS 3A

At The Top… The top five in Division I remained the same, but Nos. 6 through 10 got a makeover — Mount Vernon up to No. 6, Pottsboro and Jim Ned up a spot each, and Jourdanton back in to round out the top 10. In Division II, Poth’s manhandling of every opponent finally got them up to No. 2, while Waskom (No. 9) and Newton (No. 10) have found their way into the top 10.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DI No. 36 Coldspring-Oakhurst (beat Kirbyville 42-14, up 20 spots from No. 56; they were the biggest faller last week)

Biggest One-Week Faller: DII No. 71 New Waverly (lost to Normangee 40-24, down 37 spots from No. 34)

Highest-Ranked Winless Team: DI No. 47 Atlanta (0-5)

Lowest-Ranked Undefeated Team: DI No. 82 White Oak (2-0)

Projected Title Games Right Now…
DIVISION I: Brock over Hallettsville by 12
(last week: Brock over Hallettsville by 8)
DIVISION II: Canadian over Poth by 3 (last week: Canadian over Poth by 5)

CLASS 2A

At The Top… Up in Division I, there’s a little jockeying — like Panhandle nudging up a spot to No. 4 and Timpson cracking the Top 10 at No. 9 — but not a ton of real news. DII’s got some movement in the bottom half of the Top 10, where Vega vaults to No. 7 and Muenster is in at No. 9, but the top six are all unchanged.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DII No. 22 Hull-Daisetta (beat Pasadena First Baptist 46-6, up 25 spots from No. 47)

Biggest One-Week Faller: DII No. 54 Agua Dulce (lost to Louise 41-19, down 24 spots from No. 30)

Highest-Ranked Winless Team: DII No. 20 Bruni (0-1)

Lowest-Ranked Undefeated Team: DII No. 50 Lockney (4-0)

Projected Title Games Right Now…
DIVISION I: Shiner over Post by 3
(last week: Shiner over Post by 4)
DIVISION II: Hamlin over Mart by 8 (unchanged from last week)

CLASS 1A

At The Top… Division I has a once and future new No. 1 in Rankin, who’s back at the top by usurping Sterling City. May leaps up three spots to No. 3, and Westbrook is up three spots as well to No. 6. Tough-luck Jonesboro is down two spots despite being undefeated. Division II has Richland Springs reclaiming the No. 2 spot from Calvert, Lamesa Klondike and Groom jumping three spots to Nos. 4 and 5, respectively, and Strawn tumbling to No. 8 after losing to Westbrook.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DI No. 42 Zephyr (beat Paint Rock 51-6, up 24 spots from No. 66)

Biggest One-Week Faller: DII No. 36 Dime Box (lost to Ovilla Christian 58-13, down 16 spots from No. 20)

Highest-Ranked Winless Team: DI No. 29 Spur (0-3)

Lowest-Ranked Undefeated Team: DI No. 60 McDade (1-0)

Projected Title Games Right Now…
DIVISION I: Rankin over May by 4
(last week: Sterling City over Jonesboro by 1)
DIVISION II: Balmorhea over Richland Springs by 2 (last week: Balmorhea over Calvert by 1)
