Houston football's scheduled matchup against North Texas on Saturday has been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

The two programs are searching dates to reschedule the game, but the Cougars do not have any off days remaining that overlap with North Texas. This is the fifth Houston game that has been postponed in 2020, along with Rice, Washington State, Memphis and Baylor.

"We knew that there would be challenges with COVID-19 this season and we were taking precautions to hopefully avoid this situation," North Texas AD Wren Baker said. "Our student-athelte health and safety is the priority in every decision we make and that is what this difficult decision is based on. We are hopeful we can resume safe activities soon."

The Mean Green had four positive tests this week, but contact tracing meant that UNT was unable to fill key position groups for the game on Saturday.

The Houston Cougars have yet to play a game this season due to all the cancellations, including a cancellation less than 24 hours before the game against Baylor. If the schedule holds, Houston will not play its first game until Oct. 8 against Tulane on ESPN.

The Mean Green have played games against Houston Baptist and SMU to start the season. North Texas beat HBU 57-31 in the opener, and lost 65-35 against the Mustangs, both at home.
