Welcome to TXHSFB Inside The Numbers, a weekly look at Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s comprehensive computer rankings. Each week, we’ll take a deep dive into that week’s Texas high school football computer rankings to separate the signal from the noise.

CLASS 6A and CLASS 5A

Nothing to see here. The state’s two largest classifications don’t start practice until next week, and won’t play games until September 24 at the earliest – that’s Week 5. So we’re in a holding pattern here.

CLASS 4A

At The Top… Lampasas’ impressive win over Stephenville was enough to leap-frog them ahead of Waco La Vega into the second spot in Division I, while La Vega’s opponent this week — Corpus Christi Calallen — rebounded in a big way, back until the top 10. Melissa also nudged up a couple spots to No. 8. It’s pretty steady at the top in Division II, though Iowa Park’s win over Canadian moved them to No. 7 from No. 10 and Pleasant Grove’s loss dropped them a spot to No. 2.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DII No. 52 Liberty (beat Madisonville 23-10, up 22 spots from No. 74)

Biggest One-Week Faller: DII No. 50 Madisonville (lost to Liberty 23-10, down 18 spots from No. 32); DII No. 82 Shepherd (lost to Kirbyville 28-8, down 18 spots from No. 64)

Highest-Ranked 0-2 Team: DII No. 12 Celina

DIVISION I: Argyle over Lampasas by 1 (last week: Argyle over Lampasas by 5)
DIVISION II: Carthage over Pleasant Grove by 3 (last week: Carthage over Pleasant Grove by 2)

CLASS 3A

At The Top… In Division I, Pottsboro unseats Wall for the No. 2 spot wile Hallettsville vaults back into the Top 10 at No. 7. Cameron Yoe drops to No. 10. Division II is absolute chaos, though the computer still thinks Canadian’s just fine after their close road loss to a 4A team. Paul Pewitt is the new No. 2, and Poth’s demolition of rival Falls City impressed the computer enough to put them at No. 3 from No. 21. Idalou and Holliday check into the top 10 at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DII No. 59 Warren (beat Evadale 41-6, up 31 spots from No. 90)

Biggest One-Week Faller: DI No. 49 Jefferson (lost 48-0 to Center, down 28 spots from No. 21)

Highest-Ranked 0-2 Team: DII No. 12 Eastland

Lowest-Ranked 2-0 Team: DII No. 95 Queen City

CLASS 2A

At The Top… No new entries into the DI top 10, but some shuffling — Shiner reclaims the second spot from Post, Panhandle vaults for spots to No. 6 and a few other small changes. DII’s a little more exciting, with Hamlin usurping Mart for the No. 1 spot, Vega blitzing into the top 10 and Muenster up two spots to No. 10 despite a loss.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DII No. 51 Ropesville (beat Odessa Compass 61-0, up 30 spots from No. 81)

Biggest One-Week Faller: DI No. 64 Alto (lost to Timpson 48-6, down 31 spots from No. 33)

CLASS 1A

At The Top… In Division I, it’s all upside-down — Westbrook’s upset win over Borden County vaulted the Wildcats to No. 7, dropped BC from No. 1 to No. 8, and installed Rankin back at the top of the rankings. Leakey was also a big mover, up to No. 6 from No. 10. DII is much more calm, though Groom’s big win over Paducah rocketed them from No. 12 to No. 5.

Fastest One-Week Riser: DII No. 39 Rising Star (beat Forestburg 58-31, up 29 spots from No. 68)
