Texas State quarterback Brady McBride will start the 2020 season under center, according to a report by the Statesman. The Bobcats open against SMU on Saturday.

McBride transferred to Texas State from Memphis before the 2019 season, but was denied a waiver to play immediately. He appeared in three games in 2018 for Memphis, but transferred back closer to home.

Before college, McBride was a three-year starter at Coppell where he threw for 2,414 yards and 35 touchdowns as a senior and earned honorable mention All-State.

McBride was a revelation on the practice squad during the 2019 season with many claiming he might be the best quarterback on the roster. He will try and improve an offense that ranked last in the Sun Belt in total offense.

Incumbent quarterback Tyler Vitt is expected to serve as the primary backup. He threw for 1,590 yards, 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions as a sophomore. Co-starter Gresch Jensen opted to transfer after his first season in San Marcos.
