After days of rumblings, the Big Ten will cancel its 2020 fall football season, according to multiple reports. The news was first reported by Yahoo

The Big Ten becomes the first Power Five conference to cancel games, though the Pac-12 is reportedly close to joining them. The Big Ten will try and play in the spring instead, joining many sub-P5 schools.

At this point, the SEC, Big 12 and ACC have no plans to cancel fall football. The Pac-12 is expected to take a vote as early as today. However, the situation is constantly changing.

The Mountain West and MAC both canceled football in the past week, citing health concerns. The AAC, Sun Belt and Conference USA – the three Group of Five conferences in Texas – are all proceeding as normal at this point. With the Big Ten's cancellation, 40 FBS programs will not play football this fall, or 30 percent of the sport.

Additionally, almost every sub-FBS conference in Texas has pushed football to the spring, including the SWAC, Lone Star Conference and American Southwest. National championships at the Division II and Division III levels have been canceled. The only small college conference in Texas slated to play is the Southland, though several teams have suspended workouts in the past few days because of COVID-19.
