TCU added a commitment from LSU transfer athlete Marcel Brooks on Tuesday. Brooks will have to apply for a waiver for immediate eligibility, but has four years remaining to use three years of eligibility.

Brooks was one of the top players in the nation coming out of Flower Mound Marcus. He played on both sides of the ball at the 6A high school and entered LSU in 2019 as a composite 5-star recruit.

He got on the field right away for the national champions, appearing in 11 games primarily as a pass rusher. Brooks posted eight tackles and 1.5 sacks at LSU.

If the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Fort Worth native can earn instant eligibility, he will be a major addition to a lackluster Horned Frogs’ pass rush. The normally elite unit barely cracked 20 sacks, which ranks among the worst performances of the Gary Patterson era. Top defensive lineman Ross Blacklock is also off to the NFL.

Brooks is the third major addition for TCU of the offseason. The Horned Frogs also added Oklahoma transfer Mark Jackson as a pass rusher, and unexpectedly signed 5-star running back Zach Evans.
