Former Alabama receiver Chadarius Townsend announced on Instagram that he will transfer to Texas Tech. Townsend is a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining in Lubbock.

The 6-foot, 194-pound athlete from Tanner, Ala., ranked among the top 200 recruits in the nation in the class of 2017. He worked at multiple spots over the past three seasons, including running backs, wide receivers and defensive backs. He appeared in 19 games at Alabama, primarily on special teams.

Before arriving at Alabama, Townsend threw for 1,245 yards and rushed for 1,328 yards with 35 touchdowns while earning 2A All-State honors at Tanner.

Townsend last played wide receiver, but could also move over to running back, where the Red Raiders lost several key contributors. Starter Sarodorick Thompson rushed for 765 yards and 12 touchdowns, but is the only rusher with more than 10 carries returning from the 2019 roster.
