Prospect on the Rise

Wall 2021 OG Tate Williams (6'4, 265) picked up his first Big 12 offer from Baylor and quickly committed to the Bears.

Williams committed to Baylor over offers from Abilene Christian, Texas State, UTSA and Rutgers.

"Baylor has kinda been a dream school of mine," Williams said in a video interview with San Angelo LIVE!. "I like the coaching staff. It is a great academic environment for me. It felt like the best fit for what I want to do with my life."

Williams collected 101 'Pancake' blocks to earn first-team all-district and second-team all-state honors as a junior in 2019.

Commit of the Week

Galena Park North Shore 2020 RB Zach Evans (5'11, 200) committed to TCU in a shocking announcement on Monday morning.

Evans, who had a rollercoaster recruitment that included being released from a Georgia Letter of Intent, has already been enrolled in a class at TCU and is officially a Horned Frog.

Evans is rated as a five-star prospect, checking in as the No. 4 prospect overall and the No. 1 RB in the 2020 DCTF Hot 100.

Next Level Athlete Scouting Report: Evans is the complete package at running back and one of the best the state has produced in recent memory. Johnathan Gray was the last running back to finish in the top four in the state's recruiting rankings and that happened back in the Class of 2012. Evans is a true three-down back who is not only a threat to score any time he touches the football, but he is also a pass-catching threat who has continued to develop his blocking skills. It is that blend of attributes that has him rated so highly by DCTF and all of the other primary recruiting services. The five-star is also one of the most physically imposing prospects in the state with verified 4.51 40-yard dash speed.

Underclassman of the Week

Manvel 2022 LB Justin Medlock (6'0, 200) picked up six new offers this week from Ohio State, TCU, Oregon, Texas Tech, LSU and USC.

Medlock is one of the most heavily pursued linebacker prospects in the nation with 19 early offers. His early offer list also includes Illinois, Syracuse, Oklahoma, Kansas, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Houston, Baylor, UConn, Nebraska, SMU, Texas, Tennessee).

"My speed and my recognition of plays help me get to the ball quick and to be able to shed linemen and make a play," Medlock said when asked about his biggest strengths as a player.

Medlock earned 11-5A Divison II first-team all-district and honorable mention all-state honors as a sophomore in 2019.

Recruit of the Week

Texas High 2021 LB Clayton Smith (6'4, 220) narrowed a lengthy offer list down to a Top Six: Texas, LSU, Florida State, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Oregon.

Smith plans to announce his commitment on Friday at 2:10pm.

Many feel like this recruitment will ultimately be a traditional Red River Rivalry battle between Texas and Oklahoma, but also keep an eye on LSU. The Tigers have been making waves in the Lone Star State in the 2021 cycle.

Smith is rated as a four-star prospect, checking in as the No. 10 prospect overall and the No. 1 OLB in the 2021 DCTF Hot 100.

Update: Original article was edited to reflect a change in Clayton Smith's announcement time.
