Perryton Down to Two

It appears Perryton is down to two candidates for their HFC/AD job and neither appears to be the current HFC Stephen Coursey. Coursey, who was HFC only as Perryton had a separate athletic director, had to re-apply and interview for the new combined role. It appears the two finalists for the job are a current head coach in South Texas with panhandle ties and the other is a former head coach in South Texas and West Texas with ties to the South Plains. There’s no word on when a decision will come down as it appears the final round of interviews won’t take place until the CoVid-19 pandemic ends.

Quanah Hires Thrall’s Jason Cole

Thrall HFC/AD Jason Cole informed Dave Campbell’s Texas Football on Tuesday morning that he had resigned his post and was taking the same position at Quanah. Cole had a solid six-year run in Thrall posting a 41-26 overall record, with his best season being a 10-2 mark in 2016, followed up by a 9-3 record in 2017. Cole’s departure from Thrall leaves an attractive 2A job opening in the Austin area. Expect Thrall to get some solid interest from around the state.

Plano Hires Todd Ford as Head Coach

Plano hired former Lucas Lovejoy head coach Todd Ford has its next head coach on Tuesday afternoon. Ford is a known commodity around the state having spent nine years as a head coach, including being the first-ever head coach at Round Rock Cedar Ridge. He led the Raiders to a 10-2 mark in his final season there. He left Lovejoy in January after four seasons. Ford, who has a 52-47 record as a head coach, was also the offensive coordinator at North Texas under former head coach Todd Dodge. He also served as Dodge's offensive coordinator at Southlake Carroll. He is Plano's first head coach outside of the legendary John Clark coaching tree since 1965.

Plano originally hired Denton Braswell head coach Cody Moore earlier this month, but he decided to remain at Braswell a day after accepting the job at a Plano ISD board meeting. This is the first high profile hire for new Plano ISD AD Jeff Smith, who came over from Prosper ISD replacing Gerald Brence who retired at the end of the fall semester.

Copperas Cove Hires Jason Hammett

Copperas Cove ISD promoted assistant head coach Jason Hammett to the position of HFC/AD on Monday afternoon. Hammett came to Cove from Ennis with Jack Alvarez, who left his post as Cove's head coach after two seasons to take the same position at Cuero. This will be Hammett's first head coaching gig and he'll be Cove's third head coach in four seasons. He also spent time as an assistant coach at Corsicana and Burleson Centennial prior to joining the staff at Ennis. He takes over a Bulldogs program that went 3-7 in 2019 and he’ll look to bring some stability to a program that is now on their third head coach in four seasons, after 24-years of stability under Jack Welch, who is now an assistant on staff at Texas A&M-Commerce.

Hallsville Names Robinson HC Tommy Allison as HFC

Hallsville named Robinson head coach Tommy Allison as its next head coach at Monday night's board meeting. Allison spent the last nine seasons in Robinson where he posted an overall record of 53-46, with his best season being an 8-5 mark in 2014. Allison has an overall coaching record of 92-60, and led Cayuga to a state title in 2009 and a title game appearance in 2008. Previous Hallsville HFC/AD Joe Drennon departed in January to take over at Grand Saline. Hallsville ISD decided to split the AD/HFC position and in early February Hallsville named former Commerce head coach Cody Farrell as its athletic director. Expect Allison to install a more up-tempo offense in Hallsville, which has been run oriented under the last two regimes. Allison’s departure from Robinson opens up an attractive 4A job right outside of Waco.
