We updated our list of the Top 10 Texas high school football prospects in the Class of 2021 on Tuesday.

Here's a look into why we rated them how we did.

10. OLB Clayton Smith - Texas High

Ranking Quick-Hitter: Smith moves up to No. 10 on the list. He is true edge-bender who will pin his ears back and rush the quarterback and chase down running backs. A terror in pursuit.

Recruiting Insider: Smith has not released an official cut-down list, but both Baylor and Texas seem poised to be serious players in his recruitment. Oklahoma and LSU are two more to keep a close eye on.

_____

9. OG Bryce Foster - Katy Taylor

Ranking Quick-Hitter: Being one of the most powerful players in the state helps cement Foster's status as a top 10 in-state recruit and as one of the top-rated interior offensive line prospects in the past decade.

Recruiting Insider: Foster has narrowed to a Top Five: Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon. UT, TAMU, and OU appear to be in great shape for a commitment at this point. Experts of those teams are all split on where he ends up.

_____

8. RB LJ Johnson - Cy-Fair

Ranking Quick-Hitter: One of the most heavily offered prospects (around 40 offers) in the nation moves up four spots. Johnson is a passionate runner between the tackles with above-average abilities as a pass-catcher.

Recruiting Insider: Academics should play a role in his decision-making process, so Stanford is a school to keep a close eye on. Johnson's father played his college ball at LSU. Johnson has also taken recent unofficial visits to schools like Baylor, Texas, and Texas A&M.

_____

7. OT Savion Byrd - Duncanville

Ranking Quick-Hitter: Byrd earned all-district honors as a sophomore at OT before playing mostly on defense as a junior. He has the measurables and tools colleges covet, and that is why he owns offers from the nation's elite.

Recruiting Insider: Byrd has not announced an official cut-down list, but we are closely monitoring schools like Texas, Texas A&M, LSU and Oklahoma. All have offered. SMU is also in the mix.

_____

6. DE Landon Jackson - Pleasant Grove

Ranking Quick-Hitter: The highest-rated uncommitted defensive prospect in the state has produced big numbers on the field and has a tremendous upside. A speed-rusher off the edge who closes on the football in a flash.

Recruiting Insider: Jackson has his first two official visits scheduled to Texas A&M and LSU. Those are the two programs we are watching the most closely. He has released a Top 10: Arkansas, Alabama, LSU, Miami (FL), Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and Washington.

_____

5. WR Cody Jackson - Richmond Foster

Ranking Quick-Hitter: Jackson quickly shows on his highlight tape that he is a vertical threat who will go down the field and make the big play, but close inspection of his game tape shows he is a complete receiver who will make plays all over the field. A complete package.

Recruiting Insider: Jackson is committed to Oklahoma.

_____

4. RB Camar Wheaton - Lakeview Centennial

Ranking Quick-Hitter: Wheaton is a running back who possesses the ability to take over a game. A prospect who is in the mix to be considered as the top-rated prospect in the state. He runs with a unique blend of power and agility that allows him to pick up tough yards and be a homerun threat every time he touches the ball.

Recruiting Insider: Wheaton plays things close to the vest, but this could end up boiling down to a traditional rivalry battle between Texas and Oklahoma with SEC schools like Alabama and LSU sprinkled in.

_____

3. DE Ja'Tavion Sanders - Denton Ryan

Ranking Quick-Hitter: You won't find a more intimidating physical specimen. Sanders is also an elite athlete who has a wide receiver skillset with the frame of a defensive end. He moves up from No. 8 to No. 3 after a dominant junior season.

Recruiting Insider: Sanders is committed to Texas.

_____

2. OG Donovan Jackson - Bellaire Episcopal

Ranking Quick-Hitter: Among the nation's elite offensive linemen in the 2021 class. Adequate height but outstanding length to project to tackle. Could also become an elite guard at the next level. Mirrors edge speed and uses foot quickness to gain advantages in the run game.

Recruiting Insider: Jackson is committed to Ohio State.

_____

1. OT Tommy Brockermeyer - All Saints

Ranking Quick-Hitter: Brockermeyer missed his junior year with a shoulder injury but remains at the top of the list because of his projection as a genuine tackle prospect at the highest levels of college football. However, his size, strength, and technique make him a candidate to play anywhere on the offensive front.

Recruiting Insider: Brockerymeyer has announced official visits to Alabama (April 3), LSU (May 8), Auburn (June 2), Texas (June 8), and Alabama (June 19). He is a Longhorn legacy recruit.
