Keller Timber Creek Names Marshall Williams Head Coach

Keller ISD tabbed Southlake Carroll offensive coordinator Marshall Williams as Timber Creek’s second head coach in school history. Williams, who is thought of as one of the DFW area’s bright young offensive minds, has spent the last two seasons leading the Carroll offense under head coach Riley Dodge.

Katy ISD Names Brian Randle New Head Coach at Mayde Creek

Katy ISD tabbed Alief Taylor head coach Brian Randle to be the next head coach at Mayde Creek High School on Friday. He’ll replace Mike Rabe, who was named the head coach at Katy’s ninth high school earlier this month. Randle has spent the past four seasons leading the Alief Taylor program.

Alief Hastings Promotes the Offensive Coordinator

It appears Alief ISD will name the next head football coach at their board meeting that’s coming up next Tuesday as they look to replace David Martel, who retired shortly after the conclusion of the season. The name that will be presented to the board is a familiar one as offensive coordinator Tomas De La Rosa has been tabbed as the guy to take the reins of the Bears program in 2020.

Colleyville Heritage Starts Up Interviews

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is starting up interviews this week with six candidates coming in from Wednesday through Friday (two interviewing each day). Reports are that two of the candidates are internal candidates. If conventional wisdom holds, the two internal candidates will cancel each other out. Does form hold this time, or do we see a surprise? Both internal candidates are qualified and have head coaching experience. Or does the district look to one of the four external candidates?

Beaumont United Nearing A Hire

It appears Beaumont ISD has zeroed in on a name to replace Arthur Louis as head coach at Beaumont United. That name will be made public some time next week. Look for a current DFW assistant coach at a powerful program with ties to the Beaumont area to land this job.

Galveston Ball Hires North Shore Assistant

Galena Park North Shore running backs coach/special teams coordinator Sheldon Bennight was named the new head football coach at Galveston Ball replacing Kimble Anders on Monday. Bennight, a native of Evant, will be taking his first ever head football coaching position.

Plainview Narrows the Field

It appears Plainview has narrowed the field to three finalists who were in town recently for the final round of interviews. The three candidates include a coordinator from the South Plains, a coordinator from the Big Country and a coordinator from the DFW area. Word is two of the three finalists are Plainview alums.

Perryton in a Bit of Upheaval

Perryton ISD posted its “Head Football Coach/Athletic Director” position on the THSCA website on Monday. As of now, Stephen Coursey is still employed and serving as the head football coach. The PISD athletic director, who had been the boys basketball coach is leaving the district and PISD, decided to combine the HFC/AD role, but Coursey is being asked to reapply and interview for the job as he’s served as the assistant athletic director. One reason for this is Perryton ISD doesn’t have a superintendent and, until that role is filled, things could be in flux in the town that has to drive to Kansas if they want to go to the closest Wal-Mart.

Mexia Starts Interviews

Mexia will start up interviews for its vacant head coach position next week as they look to replace Frank Sandoval, who left for West Mesquite. Mexia will interview eight candidates starting on Monday while a second round of interviews with two or three finalists will take place the following week with a special board meeting to likely be called at the end of February to name a new coach.

Lamesa Promotes Joseph Hood

Lamesa ISD named defensive coordinator Joseph Hood as its next head football coach. Hood, who has had two separate stints as the defensive coordinator at Lamesa, spent 2016 as head coach at six-man Wellman-Union, leading them to their first playoff appearance in 10 seasons with a 6-5 record. He takes over a Lamesa program that posted an 0-10 mark in 2019.

Peaster Nears a New Hire

Peaster, who was scheduled to start UIL football in 2020 but had to push it back two years due to low numbers, is expected to hire a new coach at its board meeting on Feb. 20. PISD is bringing in three finalists for the final round of interviews this week; two are head coaches from DFW and the other is a current head coach in South Texas.

Garrison Names Brandon Alvarez as Head Coach

Garrison ISD named Copperas Cove offensive coordinator Brandon Alvarez as its next head football coach/athletic director on Thursday. Alvarez, who was the offensive coordinator for Ennis’ 2014 state title team, has worked for his father Jack Alvarez at both Ennis and Copperas Cove and he has extensive ties to the East Texas area.
