Tarleton has announced its 2020 schedule, the first schedule as a transitioning member to the Division-I level.

The Texans will play 11 games. Five will come against FCS teams, five will come against current Division-II teams and one will be against Dixie State, another team in the midst of transition to the Division-I level.

"We're very excited about the schedule we were able to put together over the last three months," said head coach Todd Whitten. "Our administration worked very hard in putting together a really good first schedule at the FCS level and I'm excited to get back to work with these guys in the spring to prepare for next fall."

Tarleton opens its Division-I tenure against the class of Texas FCS football: Sam Houston State. The Texans travel to Huntsville on Sept. 5 for its opener. They will also face off against national FCS powers Kennesaw State and South Dakota State.

The Texans host their first Division-I game on Nov. 7, as Missouri State travels to Stephenville. However, all other games against established FCS programs will take place on the road.

The schedule includes games against former conference-mates UTPB, Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Midwestern State. The game against TAMUK on Oct. 17 will serve as the Homecoming game.

The transition period for football is four seasons. During this period, the Texans will not be eligible for championships or postseason competition. Tarleton is joining the WAC in all sports except football. The WAC does not sponsor football at this time, though there are rumblings that could change in the next few seasons. The WAC also added Dixie State, another football school, over the offseason.
