Texas Tech quarterback Jett Duffey has entered the transfer portal after four years with the program. Duffey will be immediately eligible as a graduate transfer at his next stop.

Duffey came into 2019 as the third-string quarterback in Lubbock. However, he was thrust into action against Oklahoma after starter Alan Bowman went down with a season-ending shoulder injury. He made the most of his opportunity, averaging 364 total yards per game and adding 19 total touchdowns in eight starts.

The redshirt junior from Mansfield Lake Ridge led the Red Raiders offense to 33.6 points per game in Big 12 play and keyed an upset over No. 21 Oklahoma State in his first start. However, Texas Tech finished just 2-6 in his starts for a 4-8 record on the year.

Duffey leaves Texas Tech with 3,678 passing yards, 601 rushing yards, 29 total touchdowns and 11 interceptions in three seasons of action. He played in 18 games as a Red Raider.

With Duffey’s departure, Bowman is in line to regain his starting job. San Angelo Central product Maverick McIvor redshirted his first season on campus. Texas Tech was also tied to Utah State quarterback Jordan Love – who Matt Wells coached – before Love entered the NFL draft. The Red Raiders could look to the transfer wire for additional quarterback help. The Red Raiders have one quarterback committed in the class of 2020, Donovan Smith, a three-star from Wolfforth Frenship.

Prior to Texas Tech, Duffey was named Mr. Texas Football in 2015 after leading his Lake Ridge squad to the 5A state title game and 15-1 overall record as a senior. He posted 4,444 yards of total offense and 48 total touchdowns. He was recruited to Texas Tech by Kliff Kingsbury.

Duffey was suspended from Texas Tech by the university in spring and summer of 2017 after being found responsible for a Title IX violation. A grand jury declined to press charges against Duffey and he returned to the football team.
