Team of the Week:

Howard Payne Yellow Jackets (4-5, 3-5)

Last Week: HPU scored 10 points in the fourth quarter last Saturday to earn a huge 24-16 win over Southwestern on the road. Both of the Yellow Jackets starting quarterbacks were hurt during the game and freshman Kolbi Tate from Benbrook entered and completed 5-of-10 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown to lead HPU to victory. Tauren Bradley gained 53 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 20 carries to lead the rushing attack. DunTayviun Gross had another outstanding performance with 105 yards receiving and a touchdown on eight catches while Jake Parker added 104 yards on six receptions. The HPU defense was led by linebacker Britt Boler who had 10 tackles, seven solo, and recovered a fumble while defensive lineman Brady Wade recorded 10 tackles, seven solo, three tackles for loss, one-half sack and forced two fumbles.

The Verdict: The Yellow Jackets have won two games in a row and an impressive four games this season as head coach Braxton Harris continues to build the program. This is the most wins in a season for HPU since 2014 and a remarkable turnaround from recent years as the Yellow Jackets won three games total in the last four seasons combined. A win this week at home to end the season would give HPU its most wins in a season since 2006.

This Week: HPU returns home to play Belhaven on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
