QB: Jett Duffey, Texas Tech (Mansfield Lake Ridge)

Duffey keeps getting more comfortable in the Texas Tech offense. The junior threw for 354 yards, an 81-yard touchdown strike to Dalton Rigdon and no interceptions in an evisceration of West Virginia. This is the quarterback play Texas Tech needs to win games.

RB: Sincere McCormick, UTSA (Converse Judson)

To win games, UTSA needs McCormick to be the best player on the field. He was exactly that against Old Dominion, dominating with 137 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. On the game-winning drive, UTSA gave the ball to McCormick seven times to set up a touchdown. That’s how good this freshman has been.

WR: James Proche, SMU (DeSoto)

Proche just keeps playing great football, and keeping the Mustangs in football games. Against East Carolina, Proche exploded for 167 yards and two touchdowns on 14 catches. Honestly, it’s hard to choose one player on SMU’s offense. Tight end Kylen Granson (7 catches, 138 yards, 3 TDs) and Xavier Jones (20 carries for 157 yards, 3 TDs) were also ridiculous.

OL: Texas

Texas’ offensive line had a relatively consistent day against a solid Kansas State defensive attack. The Longhorns held the Wildcats to just four tackles for loss, and cleared the way for the offense to gain 228 yards on the ground and two scores on 5.9 yards per carry in a critical 27-24 upset of the No. 16 Wildcats.

UT: Hutch White, Texas State (Kerrville Tivy)

White caught 10 passes for 165 yards in a must-win game against South Alabama on Saturday. It was the best receiving performance by any Texas State wide receiver since the program moved up to FBS.

DL: Ochaun Mathis, TCU (Manor)

This is the Ochaun Mathis we were promised by Gary Patterson when the season started. He exploded out of the gates with seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks to largely ruin Baylor QB Charlie Brewer’s day and get the Bears’ offense out of rhythm.

LB: Terrel Bernard, Baylor (La Porte)

In a hard-fought defensive battle, Bernard was largely the difference. The sophomore posted a career-high 19 tackles to go with three tackles for loss, a sack and a 20-yard interception. He did everything for Baylor on Saturday except get points on the board – and he almost did that, too.

DB: Grayland Arnold, Baylor (Kountze)

Arnold only had a few stats in his first major snaps coming off an injury. However, he broke perfectly on a pair of Max Duggan passes to nab interceptions. The last one came on the last play of the game in triple-overtime to end a 29-23 thriller.

UT: Riko Jeffers, Texas Tech (Sachse)

Jeffers posted five tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup against West Virginia. However, his two forced fumbles were maybe the biggest plays of his day. He forced one near the end of the first quarter that allowed Tech to take a commanding 28-3 lead over the Mountaineers three minutes later. In the third quarter, he added another forced fumble that helped take the wind out of another WVU drive.

ST: John Mayers, Baylor (Flower Mound Marcus)

After a partially-blocked field goal in the second quarter, Mayers was huge. The redshirt freshman nailed three straight field goals – including a shocking 51-yarder to send the game to overtime with under a minute left. His effort was the only reason Baylor even had a chance to win the football game.
