Can’t wait until Friday to get your Texas football fix? Here’s a sampling of Thursday night games to watch, including Dana Holgorsen's AAC debut and major district clashes in the high school ranks.

High School

Conroe Oak Ridge at 6A No. 25 Klein Collins
The 3-0 Tigers are rolling, fresh off a 49-21 win over Klein Forest and ranked for the first time. Braelon Bridges is off to a fast start with six touchdowns and 346 yards rushing to lead the Tigers. Oak Ridge gave The Woodlands all it could handle last week before dropping a tough 20-14 decision. Alton McCaskill and Kywon Morgan key an offense that’s capable of putting up big numbers.

Laredo Martin at Laredo Alexander
Martin and Alexander wrap up non-district play with a 5A vs 6A tilt. Jose Castandea and Dean Blomondville had big games as Martin won its second straight game, cruising past Cigarroa 56-7. Alexander fell off the pace following a long trip to San Antonio Roosevelt, falling 62-35 despite leading 14-10. Jay Santos passed for 267 yards and three scores in the game.

Hays Consolidated vs. Austin Anderson, 7:30pm, KBVO/kbvo.com in Austin
Another key early-season battle in the race for playoff positioning in District 25-6A. Both teams are unbeaten with the ground-based Rebels looking to hand up-and-coming Anderson its first loss. The Trojans, who last made the playoffs in 2016, can take another step closer by scoring a second victory over a group of teams that include Del Valle, Bowie, and Austin High.

5A DI No. 10 San Antonio Wagner at San Antonio Lanier
Newly-ranked Wagner looks to pick up its second straight District 13-5A-I win over city rival Lanier. The Thunderbirds use a punishing ground game led by LJ Butler and an aggressive defense sparked by pass-rushing dynamo DeMarcus Hendricks. Lanier has struggled early.

5A DII No. 9 Lubbock-Cooper at Lubbock Monterey
One week after working overtime – four of them in fact -- but coming up short against Wolfforth Frenship, Cooper faces another tough match-up against Monterey in a non-district tilt. Expect a high-scoring affair. Monterey’s Coreon Bailey has already topped the 1,000-yard mark and has 10 TD passes. Zyion Martin and Tyrie Tipton have been is favorite targets. Pirates’ quarterback Cooper LaFebre passed for 254 yards and 4 TDs in the loss while Isaiah Johnson proved versatile out of the backfield.

Melissa vs PVT No. 4 Cedar Hill Trinity Christian
Cedar Hill Trinity Christian hosts Melissa in an interesting private school-public school battle. Trinity Christian, which played on ESPN two weeks ago, features Shedeur Sanders, who’s passed for 551 yards and 6 TDs so far. Melissa’s Ezra Malone had a big game in last week’s win over Whitehouse.

PVT No. 3 Dallas Bishop Lynch vs. Fort Worth Wyatt
Another public-private matchup in the Metroplex sees Bishop Lynch travelling to Fort Worth to take on a Wyatt team that’s still searching for answers following a 0-3 start. Bishop Lynch features Darries Boyd averages 160 yards per game rushing. Caleb Williams has been a defensive standout with four sacks and six and a half tackles for loss.

Bridge City vs. Silsbee, 7:30pm, TexanLive.com
Silsbee hosts Bridge City in a 4A tilt. Silsbee looks for its second straight win following last week’s bounce-back over Nederland. Bridge City snapped a two-game skid with a 35-21 win over Anahuac.

Corpus Christi Ray vs Corpus Christi King, 7pm, South Texas CW23 in Corpus
Ray looks for its third straight win after dropping a season-opening loss to East Central. Robert Vasquez rushed for 107 yards and passed for 170 and two scores in last week’s win over Carroll. King faces an uphill battle as it looks for the season’s first win.

College

Houston at Tulane, 7pm, ESPN
Things have not quite gone according to plan early in Dana Holgorsen’s return to Houston. The Cougars have dropped two of their first three, though both losses have come at the hands of ranked teams. A win at Tulane could send Houston on a run.
