Looking forward to another busy weekend of high school, college and now NFL football but don’t want to wait, here are some games to check out on Thursday night.

Plano vs El Paso Eastwood at The Star, 7 pm, WFAA (live)

Just weeks after the game was temporarily canceled amid potential security concerns, El Paso Eastwood and Plano take to the field at The Star in Frisco for football and community healing.

Plano endured a rough start, digging itself a 46-0 hole against Hebron. The Wildcats found some footing in the second half, scoring 26 points to make the score more respectable, but coach Jaydon McCullogh’s team will be looking for a better result tonight. Oliver Towns passed for 203 yards and three scores,

Eastwood also had a rough debut, falling to El Paso Americas 63-0. Eastwood’s offensive line couldn’t contain Americas’ Dylan Kemp, who registered five sacks in the first quarter alone. In all, Eastwood quarterback Christian Casteneda suffered nine sacks.

#16 Hebron at #18 Arlington Martin

A top-20 matchup at Maverick Stadium thanks to Arlington Martin’s 6A-shaking win over then-3rdranked Lake Travis last week. The Warriors can continue their climb up the rankings by knocking off another top-20 team in Hebron.

Arlington Martin quarterback Zach Mundell accounted for four of his team’s five TDS in the 35-21 win over Lake Travis, proving devastating with his running ability, totaling 174 yards on 16 carries with three scores. Martin’s improved defense stymied Lake Travis’ offense, holding the Cavaliers scoreless after halftime. Christian Traylor made 10 tackles while linebackers Morice Blackwell and Julian Johnson made nine each. KJ Polk’s timely interception started the Warriors’ winning push.

Hebron opened up a 46-0 lead and rolled to a 53-26 win over Plano to open the season. Isaiah Broadway rushed for 99 yards, quarterback Carson Harris added 72 more as the Hawks took advantage of a handful of Plano miscues, including several failed punt attempts.

They said it: “We need to show the maturity to go back to work,” Martin coach Bob Wager said. “The Hebron Hawks couldn’t care less about what happened to us on Friday night.”

#25 Midland Lee at Abilene

The Rebels made their way into the rankings following an impressive win over Smithson Valley. They travel over to Abilene looking for another solid win. The Eagles look to bounce back from an opening loss to Amarillo Tascosa. Phonzo Dotson leads Abilene’s offense, which only attempted two passes Friday night. Lee used a balanced attack to topped Smithson Valley. Michael Serrano passed for 174 yards and two scores and added another 74 yards and two more scores on the ground.

#6 A&M Consolidated at Bryan

Neighborhood battle in the Brazos Valley. Bryan enters off a dominant defensive performance against Waller, earning a 14-3 win. Sixth-ranked Consolidated demolished Killeen Ellison 49-6 and looks to continue its roll with a not-so-friendly visit to Merrill Green Stadium. Gage Paul and Brian Darby had big games to lead the Tigers’ offense.

Nederland at Beaumont United

An intriguing matchup between 6A Beaumont United and 5A-D2 Nederland. The Bulldogs are eager to get back in action following a heartbreaking 21-20 loss to 4A-D2 #3 West Orange Stark. Beaumont United topped St. Pius X 53-6.

Donna at PSJA Southwest

An early-season district battle pits closely matched Donna and PJSA Southwest, who should be key parts to the race for the final playoff spot. Donna toppled rival Donna North 21-3 to open the season; PSJA Southwest held off Edingurg Economedes 21-14. Thursday’s winner gets an early leg up in the 16-5A-1 standings.
