Every season there are plenty of milestone moments in Texas High School Football and as we near the start of the 2019 season, Dave Campbell's Texas Football takes a look at some of the coaches and teams who are nearing some major milestones!

Aledo’s National Record & Shooting for Nine State Titles

The Aledo Bearcats currently hold a national record for most district wins in a row and that streak is still active. The Bearcats have earned 83 consecutive district wins. Their last loss in district play was a 35-28 loss at Everman on October 5, 2007. Aledo can extend that streak to 91 games if they can run the table in District 5-5A Division II. Also of note, Aledo can break the record for most state titles for one school if they can win their ninth state title in December at AT&T Stadium and the defending 5A Division II champions are heavy favorites to repeat.

Highland Park’s Streaks and Randy Allen’s Push for 400 Victories

The three-time defending state champions have rattled off 31 consecutive wins and currently hold the state’s longest winning streak. The Scots last loss was September 1, 2017 in the season opener on the road at Rockwall. Meanwhile, head coach Randy Allen is fast approaching a coaching milestone that only Phil Danaher, G.A. Moore and Gordon Wood have achieved — 400 wins as a head coach. Allen currently has 392 victories and with eight wins he can achieve that incredible milestone and put himself in the most elite of company. Highland Park also holds the state’s longest playoff winning streak as the Scots have win 18 consecutive playoff games. HP’s last playoff loss came in the area round of the 6A playoffs in 2015 against Waco Midway.

Denney Faith On the Brink of 300 wins

If not for a slow start to the 2018 season, Albany’s Denney Faith would have already reached 300 wins, but alas, he’ll go for that major milestone in the Lions season opener on Aug. 30 as they visit Colorado City. Faith would make it an even dozen coaches who have reached the 300 victory plateau.

Laredo United’s David Sanchez Nears the 200 mark

One of the most decorated coaches in South Texas is three wins away from a big milestone as Laredo United head coach David Sanchez ended the 2018 season with 197 victories. Sanchez’s squad could bring him to that milestone most likely in early October.

Several Nearing the Century Mark

There are multiple coaches statewide who should earn their 100th win this season, most notably a few coaches sitting on 99 career wins. All will try to reach that century mark in their season openers including: Malakoff’s Jamie Driskell, Kerrville Tivy’s David Jones and Quinlan Ford’s Todd Wallace. Also nearing 100 is Saginaw Boswell HC John Abendschan who currently sits at 96 career wins.

700 Win Watch

Only a dozen programs in the state have reached the magical milestone of 700 wins all-time and three schools are nearing that mark and should at some point reach that milestone. Lufkin is sitting on 697 wins; Abilene High needs just six victories as they are sitting on 694 wins and Albany, aside from getting Coach Faith 300 wins, could hit the 700-win mark with eight victories in 2019.

600 Win Watch

We’ve also got several programs on the brink of getting to that very lofty number of 600 wins in school history and here’s a few that look to be in range to hit that goal in 2019. Port Neches-Groves has 599 wins; Forney has 597 wins; Denison has 597 wins; Rogers has 596 wins and Ennis has 594 wins.

El Campo vs. Wharton 100th Meeting on Sep. 20

One of the state’s longest running rivalries is the “Wharton County Rivalry,” and  El Campo and Wharton will play for the 100th time this year. The two towns, located just 13 miles apart, have played 99 times with El Campo leading the series 71-24-4, and Wharton winning last year's game 27-21.
