TCU linebacker Montrel Wilson will leave the program after dealing with a variety of injuries, according to a report from Horned Frog Blitz

Wilson came to TCU with great promise. As a freshman in 2015, Wilson started half a dozen games and posted 61 tackles, four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

However, injuries took over his career and prevented Wilson from reaching his potential. Wilson played only two games in 2016 before suffering a season-ending injury. He was limited to just seven games in 2017, and later missed the entire 2018 regular season.

TCU hoped for Wilson to grow back into the starting middle linebacker in 2019. The Horned Frogs lost top MIKE options Ty Summers and Arico Evans to graduation. Now, the Horned Frogs must look in a different direction.

Redshirt freshman DeMauryon Holmes was listed as the primary backup coming out of camp next to Garret Wallow. TCU could also move sophomore Ben Wilson over to get two more proven options on the field.

Garret Wallow starred at both strongside linebacker and safety a year ago. With his versatility and familiarity with TCU's defense, Wallow could also shift over for stretches.

TCU led the Big 12 in total defense and ranked No. 2 in scoring defense a year ago. The Horned Frogs return six starters, and get defensive tackle Ross Blacklock back from an Achilles injury that kept him out in 2018.

Before playing at TCU, Wilson recorded 115 tackles and three interceptions as a senior while playing safety at Keller Fossil Ridge.
