Newton 2020 DE James Sylvester (6'4, 245)

Sylvester made a verbal commitment to TCU on Monday, picking the Horned Frogs over offers from schools like Texas A&M, Baylor, Arkansas, SMU, Alabama, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Georgia, Florida State, Oregon, Texas Tech and LSU.

Sylvester has helped lead Newton to two straight state titles.

"It is a blessing you know to go back to back," Sylvester. "Just everything our coach (Newton head coach W.T. Johnson) went through and for us to win it for him again. It is just amazing, man. I can't explain the feeling."

Sylvester played his junior season with some added size on his frame and it as much harder for offensive linemen to control him.

"I just worked a lot during the summer. I just stayed in the weight room and ran a lot. I played last year at 205, so I was kind of small. It is a lot of work. It was progress. It is hard work to get where I am at today. The thing that motivated me was my coach. Everything he was going through and how sick he is and everything. It just makes me want to make him proud of me."

Scouting Report: Sylvester is one of the more physically impressive specimens in the state. He is really long and has continued to add good weight. He has an explosive first step off the edge and he can run and chase. Sylvester could be an unstoppable pass rusher once he develops more technique at the position.

Henderson 2020 ATH Caleb Medford (6'1, 186)

Medford committed to TCU over offers from schools like Arkansas, Missouri, Virginia, Indiana, Texas Tech, Illinois and Purdue.

Medford recently was named the DCTF + Next Level Athlete Prospect on the Rise and was one of the top performers at the Next Level Athlete Top 100 Showcase in Dallas in January.

Medford is an interesting prospect who could play on either side of the football in college, but his skill set may be better suited at wide receiver in the Big 12.

Scouting Report: Medford is a receiver who possesses adequate length with a strong build. He has a long, smooth stride, natural hands, and snatches the ball well out of the air. He is a multisport (basketball, baseball, track, golf) guy with big upside. Medford also is an elusive runner with the football in his hands. He can make defenders miss in the open field and is at times used in a variety of ways within the Henderson offensive scheme. He will be one of the top overall players in East Texas in 2019 and was a good addition for TCU.
