Katy Cinco Ranch down to four
Reports are Katy ISD is interviewing the four final candidates for the vacant head coaching position at Cinco Ranch, opened by Don Clayton’s retirement in April. Interviews will start Tuesday and last through Friday. The smart money is on one of two candidates inside of Katy ISD, but there is one interesting candidate who is a current head coach in South Texas along with another current Houston area head coach.

Converse Judson promotes Rodney Williams
Tuesday night Judson ISD named offensive coordinator Rodney Williams as the interim head coach at Converse Judson for the 2019 season. Williams is a well thought of assistant has been close on several head coaching jobs and will finally get a chance to lead his own program. It’s a one-year audition and if things go well, he’ll likely be named the permanent head coach and have the interim tag removed.

Goose Creek Memorial has its man
Monday night GCISD named Katy Cinco Ranch DC Shannon Carter as its next HFC, replacing Bren Jones who left in April to take a job on staff at Smithson Valley. Carter is a well thought of assistant coach in the Houston area and will look to lead the Patriots to the playoffs in a tough district. His departure from Cinco Ranch also indicates that it is very unlikely anyone on staff is promoted.

San Antonio Stevens names Anthony Boykin
San Antonio Marshall assistant Anthony Boykin was named HFC at San Antonio Stevens on Friday, Boykin does have experience as a head coach as he spent three seasons leading the program at Seguin. He takes over a Falcons program that will be on their third head coach in four seasons after Conrad Hernandez was promoted to a position in the North Side ISD athletic department.

Tatum brings in Lufkin defensive coordinator
Lufkin DC Jason Holman was named HFC/AD at Tatum on Monday morning. Holman spent the past four years in Lufkin and coordinated the Panthers to a 6A regional final appearance in 2017. Prior to that, Holman was an assistant at Tyler Chapel Hill, which included a state championship in 2011.

Edna moves quickly
Edna ISD wasted little time in moving to replace Jerry Long after his sudden resignation in late April. In fact, the district never posted the job on THSCA which is always a strong indicator of an internal promotion. That hunch was confirmed late last Wednesday as the district announced offensive coordinator Robert Draper as the next HFC/AD. Draper will look to keep things on the right path for an Edna squad that posted a 12-2 mark a year ago.

Rio Vista looks South
Rio Vista was all set to name its next HFC/AD last Monday night, but enough board members would not have been present at the meeting to make a legal hire and approval, so the district had to delay the actual vote to Thursday where Sinton offensive coordinator Kasey Black was named HFC/AD. Black, a native of nearby Godley, spent time as an assistant at Athens and Snyder before heading to Sinton to take a role as the offensive coordinator.

Sonora names Kevin Sherrill
After a remarkable turnaround in Ralls where he led the Jackrabbits to a 9-2 mark and a district title, Kevin Sherrill has decided to head to the Concho Valley where he was named HFC/AD at Sonora on Friday. Sherrill takes over a program steeped in tradition and high expectations, so how handles this situation which is quite different from Ralls will be fascinating to watch in 2019.

Keithian Alexander transfers to Dallas Skyline
In a move that we mentioned was possible last week in “This Week in TXHSFB”, it appears Terrell 2022 DT Keithian “Big Bear” Alexander has enrolled at Dallas Skyline  Alexander as a freshman earned district Newcomer of the Year honors for Terrell and was already drawing significant FBS interest. Terrell last week hired a new HFC in Marvin Sedberry, Jr. who arrives from Garland Naaman Forest, so it will be interesting to see what happens with Alexander’s PAPF and if this is a move that ends up going in front of a DEC or the state executive committee in Austin.
