A pair of big retirements in Houston

Monday two long tenured coaches in the Houston area announced their retirements resulting in Katy Cinco Ranch and Fort Bend Austin both opening up. Clayton, who opened Cinco Ranch in 1999, stepped down with a 141-77 overall record at CRHS. He led the Cougars to the state semifinals in 2009 and 2016 and retires with an overall record of 151-108 as he spent five seasons leading Livingston in the 1990s. While at Fort Bend Austin, Dan Schreiber retired after 18 seasons as a head coach with stops at Hondo and Duncanville before spending the past 10 seasons in Fort Bend leading Austin High.

Cy Ranch hires Judson's McAuliffe

Thursday morning, Cy Ranch officially named Converse Judson head coach Sean McAuliffe as its next HFC/AD. McAuliffe was HC at Judson since 2014 and led the Rockets to the state semifinals in 2014 and leaves with a 54-13 record. McAuliffe's hire means one of the most high-profile jobs in San Antonio and the entire state is open.

Crosby names Jerry Prieto

As we predicted in last week’s article, Crosby indeed namee an offensive coordinator from the Coastal Bend as Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial OC Jerry Prieto was named as the next HFC/AD at Crosby Tuesday night. Prieto oversaw one of the most explosive offenses in South Texas and gets to return to his roots as he is originally from the Houston area.

Marble Falls hires former Lockhart HC

Former Lockhart head coach Brian Herman wasn’t without a gig for long. On Monday night, he was named the next head football coach at Marble Falls. Herman will bring his Slot-T offense to Marble Falls, which will be a major departure from the spread offense which has been such a staple for the past few seasons. It’ll be interesting to see how that transition goes in 2019.

Taylor names Riesel’s Robert Little

After a lengthy search to replace Rusty Purser, on Monday night Taylor ISD named Riesel head coach Robert Little as its next HFC/AD. In 12 seasons a head coach, Little has a 100-57 overall record, including leading Chilton to a state title in 2006. He spent the last three seasons at Riesel and led the Indians to a 10-3 mark in 2018.

Texarkana Liberty-Eylau has their guy

Texarkana Liberty-Eylau won’t make its hire officially for another week as the board meeting is set for April 25, but multiple sources have confirmed they’ve settled on its next HFC/AD and it will be Richland defensive coordinator Klint King. King fits the mold Liberty-Eylau was looking for with a young and high-energy guy and King has ties to East Texas as well being a native of Sulphur Springs. The job drew a lot of interest from across the state and from Arkansas, including candidates who have state titles on their resume.

DeLeon stays in-house

As expected, DeLeon hired internally Monday night and promoted defensive coordinator Andrew Dickson to the position of HFC/AD at the 2A school southwest of Stephenville. Dickson spent the last three seasons as the defensive coordinator at DeLeon and replaces David Yeager who stepped down in March.
