TCU football has canceled its annual spring game due to injury issues. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram first reported the news.

The Horned Frogs were scheduled to hold the game on Saturday. Instead, TCU football will just conclude the spring with its final allotted practice on Friday.

Head coach Gary Patterson told reporters that the Horned Frogs have only about half of the 85 allowed scholarship players practicing in the spring. Many players are out with injuries. Twenty other scholarship recruits in the class of 2019 will join the roster this summer. Ten 2019 recruits enrolled for the spring semester, including highly-touted quarterback Max Duggan and Kansas State graduate transfer quarterback Alex Delton.

Some of the notable players out for the spring include wide receiver Jalen Reagor, running backs Sewo Olonilua and Darius Anderson, offensive tackle Lucas Niang and defensive tackle Ross Blacklock. Teams often hold players out for precautionary reasons after minor injuries in the spring, especially veteran players.

The Horned Frogs were plagued with injury issues a season ago. Quarterbacks Shawn Robinson and Michael Collins, safety Innis Gaines, offensive guard Cordel Iwuagwu, Anderson and Blacklock all missed significant time with injuries. The Horned Frogs went just 7-6 a year after appearing in the Big 12 Championship Game.

TCU football will take the field again for preseason camp in August, before opening the 2019 season on Aug. 31 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
