QB Transfer Wheel of Fortune

SMU lost quarterback Ben Hicks to Arkansas, but it is in the market for Nick Starkel who is transferring from Texas A&M.

Starkel is reportedly concentrating on schools like SMU, Duke, Ohio State, and Arizona and will be immediately eligible to play in 2019 as a graduate transfer.

If Starkel selects SMU he will be competing with sophomore William Brown, who had three starts in 2018, and true freshman Terrance Gipson.

Southlake Ties Important for 2019 and Beyond

SMU has made Southlake Carroll a big priority and has two unsigned 2019 commitments from RB TJ McDaniel and OL Henry Mossberg.

This week it extended a preferred walk-on offer to QB Will Bowers, who was named the 5-6A Offensive MVP after racking up over 3,000 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2018.

"With the football program on the rise and a great business school, it’s very intriguing," Bowers said."It’s at the top of my list right now and I feel it’s a great fit for me."

SMU has already extended offers to two Class of 2020 prospects from SLC in CB RJ Mickens and OT Andrej Karic. Don't be surprised to see an offer soon to 2020 OL Addison Penn, who has already picked up offers from Nevada and Tulsa.

JuCo DB to Add Immediate Depth

SMU added a late addition to its 2019 recruiting efforts in Highland C.C. CB Damarion Williams (5'11, 170), who flipped from Minnesota.

Williams is the type of prospect who will add immediate depth and push for a starting spot.

Evaluation: Williams is a versatile defensive back who can be a true cornerback but he also spends some time playing as a nickelback. He is sudden and quick and has an excellent break on the football when it is in the air or the ball carrier. His position flexibility should help him be a player who can come in and find a position and get on the field quickly in Dallas.

Williams also had offers from Boise State, New Mexico, UTSA, UTEP, and Washington State.
