McKinney Boyd names Joe McBride
In a bit of a surprise move, McKinney ISD named Coppell ISD Athletic Director Joe McBride as its next head football coach. McBride was a late entry into the race to land the sought-after 6A job and had spent the last four years leading the athletic department at Coppell ISD. Prior to that, McBride racked up an impressive 58-22 record in seven seasons as a head coach with stops at Frisco Liberty, Coppell and Dripping Springs.
Leander hires Kris Price
The trend of DFW area assistant coaches getting hired for jobs outside of the Metroplex is looking to be in play this week and continuing that pattern was Leander bringing in Keller defensive coordinator Kris Price to be its next head coach. Price, is one of the more well thought of assistants in the DFW area having spent time not only at Keller but also Fort Worth Dunbar, Colleyville Heritage, Mexia and Boerne.
Rio Grande City makes a change
In a move that was done very quietly, Rio Grande City decided to make a head coaching change shortly after the end of the season, as Aaron Garcia departed after three seasons leading the Rattlers. Mireles is a native of nearby Roma and will be in his first-ever head football coaching gig.
Nacogdoches’ Reyes steps down
Bobby Reyes led the Nacogdoches program since 2011, but announced to his team and coaches on Monday that he was stepping down as HFC/AD. Reyes led Nacogdoches to a 28-45 record in his seven seasons and although on the surface the record isn’t all that great, Reyes led the Dragons to three playoff appearances and had almost two total rebuilds after going 0-10 in his first year and then posting a 1-9 record in 2017. Most indications are is that this hire may stay inside as there looks to be a strong internal candidate.
Georgetown East View will have a new coach in 2019
The only head coach Georgetown East View has known stepped down on Monday morning as Robert Davies announced to his team he’d be stepping aside to take a role in Georgetown ISD athletic administration. Davies posted a 35-39 overall record, which is solid considering the opening of a new program can negatively impact a record. East View won or shared two district titles with his best year coming in 2014 when the Patriots were 9-3.
Lockhart begins interviews
Lockhart will begin interviewing candidates for its vacant HFC/AD job this week. Reports are the district will be bringing in a dozen candidates for the first round of interviews. The big question to watch with this opening will be if the district stays with a coach who runs the Slot-T offense or do they bring in someone who will run a more open attack?
Monahans is currently in the process of searching for its third head coach in as many seasons after the resignation of Mel Maxfield in December. Applications are being accepted through Friday and interviews will likely being the second week of February. Expect a hire to be in place in early March before Spring Break.

Barrett has had a number of former assistants who have been named head coaches recently including Iowa Park’s Aubrey Sims, Gainesville’s James Polk, Godley’s Curtis Lowery, Wichita Falls Hirschi’s Danny Youngs, Cleburne's Casey Walraven and Idalou’s Jeff Lofton.
