The Lumberjacks only signed one Class of 2019 TXHSFB recruit in college football's early signing period — Newton OL Caiden Walker —  but business has started to pick up.

On Monday, SFA landed two new TXHSFB commits in Lufkin DT Carl Williams (6'4, 305) and Fort Bend Dulles S Myles Heard (5'10, 190).

Williams, is one of the highest-rated high school pledges to commit to the program in recent memory.

The one-time Arkansas commit starred at the 2018 Next Level Athlete Top 100 Showcase in Houston, and is a Power Five conference caliber defender.

As a powerlifter, Williams lifts a total of 1,600 pounds (610-pound squat, 350-pound bench, 640-pound deadlift).

"Williams is very strong," NLA's scouting report reads on Williams. "He has a good first step. He can work his hands to give some pass rush finesse but when in doubt he becomes a bull rusher and is very strong, effective and disruptive with it."

Heard, picked SFA over offers from schools like Air Force, Army, Illinois State, UIW, and Lamar. Heard was a two-way standout at Dulles but will play safety in college.

"When I took my official I instantly felt at home, and I knew that I was the perfect fit for their defensive scheme," Heard explained. "Coach (Nate ) Johnson and I have a very good relationship."

"The academic part of it also played a big factor in my decision along with The city of Nacogdoches, which also made me feel at home, so it just felt like the right decision for me to make. Coach Carthel is a great coach who I truly believe will turn this program around."

Coby Carthel is SFA's 19th head coach. He posted a 59-18 six-year overall record and won the 2017 NCAA Division II Football National Championship at Texas A&M-Commerce.
