Baylor and North Texas officially announced a future home-and-home football series on Monday afternoon. The games will take place in 2028 and 2029.

The Mean Green also added a home-and-home series with Tulane and single-game matchup against Texas Southern.

The intra-state matchup between the Bears and Mean Green will take place on Sept. 2, 2028 at McLane Stadium in Waco, and Sept. 1, 2029 at Apogee Stadium in Denton.

"Baylor joins Cal and Texas Tech as Power Five conference teams coming to Denton over the next few years," UNT athletic director Wren Baker said. "I appreciate (chief operating officer ) Jared Mosley's diligent efforts to find compelling games for our fans."

Baylor and North Texas are two of the fastest-rising programs in the state. The Bears jumped from one to seven wins in Matt Rhule's second season. UNT coach Seth Littrell led the Mean Green to a pair of nine-win seasons for the first time since the 1970s.

Of course, the chances that these programs look anything like what they do now in 2028 is negligible. A decade ago, Todd Dodge was in the midst of his third season in Denton. Art Briles was in year two of a major rebuild at Baylor, and a young Nick Florence was the starting quarterback.

Baylor and UNT have played 12 times in program history, including four times since 1999. The Bears have an 11-1 advantage overall, but the Mean Green are 1-1 in games played in Denton. Darrell Dickey's UNT squad demolished Guy Morris' Baylor squad 52-14 in 2003. Eight of the games occurred before 1940.

UNT's games against Tulane will take place on Sept. 23, 2028 in New Orleans and Sept. 8, 2029 in Denton. The matchup with Texas Southern is much closer – Sept. 24, 2022 at Apogee Stadium.
