TCU football will add South Carolina defensive lineman Shameik Blackshear as a graduate transfer for the 2019 season. Blackshear announced his decision on his personal Twitter account. 

Blackshear joins TCU after four years at South Carolina. He earned a medical redshirt after playing in just two games during his freshman season. However, injuries limited his production. 

His best year came as a junior. Blackshear posted 27 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack during his only healthy season. He split time at starting defensive end. 

Prior to South Carolina, Blackshear was a consensus top 150 recruit and the No. 2 overall recruit from South Carolina in the class of 2015. He had offers from some of the top schools in the country, including Clemson, Florida State and Georgia. 

Blackshear is listed at 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, and should figure into the TCU defensive line rotation. The Horned Frogs lose starting defensive ends L.J. Collier and Ben Banogu to graduation. Junior Brandon Bowen and sophomore Ochaun Mathis are projected to start next season, but Gary Overshown should also factor into the decision. 

The Horned Frogs also get defensive tackle Ross Blacklock back from a lower-body injury. He missed the entire 2018 season with a torn Achilles. Additionally, Terrell Cooper and Corey Bethley both showed promising flashes at defensive tackle. With his size, Blackshear could also get some snaps as an interior lineman in certain packages. 

TCU learned just how important depth is on the defensive side of the ball a year ago. The Horned Frogs experienced one of the most injury-prone seasons in recent memory, especially in the secondary. At some points, only one of the Horned Frogs' starting defensive backs were on the field. 

If nothing else, Blackshear will help bolster what should be a fairly deep defensive line rotation. His immense talent with coaching from TCU's coaching staff should be impactful.
