TCU football will add former Kansas State quarterback Alex Delton as a graduate transfer. Delton announced the news on his personal Twitter account.

Delton originally announced that he would transfer to UTEP and reunite with former offensive coordinator Dana Dimel. However, Delton changed his mind at the last moment and opted to stay in the Big 12 and transfer to TCU.

The Hays, Kansas, product completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 1,202 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions in 20 appearances in a Wildcats uniform. He also added 868 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 213 attempts for 4.1 yards per carry.

Delton started six games in the past two seasons for Kansas State, but didn’t show much when given the opportunity. He completed 58.9 percent of his passes, and averaged 139.3 passing yards per game with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Delton also added 55 rushing yards per game on 3.2 yards per carry, and went 3-3 in those starts.

TCU added Delton to shore up a quarterback room with a plethora of unknowns. Delton becomes just the fourth scholarship quarterback on the roster. The others are junior Michael Collins (a former walk-on), redshirt freshman Justin Rogers and freshman Max Duggan.

Collins completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 1,059 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions a season ago. Rogers completed one pass for one yard in the Cheez-It Bowl, but is still recovering from nerve damage in his leg stemming from a catastrophic knee injury two years ago. Duggan just arrived at TCU after playing high school in Iowa.

The Horned Frogs need the level of quarterback play to improve dramatically after a disappointing 7-6 season. TCU ranked No. 87 in passing offense with 211.5 yards per game a season ago. That mark ranked ahead of only Kansas and Kansas State in the Big 12.

After opening day starter Shawn Robinson went out for the season with a shoulder injury, the Horned Frogs averaged just 17.8 points per game. That was all on display in the Cheez-It Bowl, when the Horned Frogs mustered 28 passing yards and four interceptions on 28 pass attempts.

Delton’s arrival likely means that TCU is out of the sweepstakes to land Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts. TCU was recently listed with the third-best odds to land Hurts, after only Maryland and Miami.
