Follett topped Motley County in the DII region one championship game 48-18.  In a perfectly executed game plan, Follett took full advantage of every possession, grinding out the clock with their running game that gained seemingly 8 yards and staying inbounds on every carry thus keeping the clock rolling and the ball out of Motley County’s high octane offense’s hands all night. RB Dylan Howard paced the Panthers rush attack with 124 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Follett QB Christian Barber was 5-5 for 72 yards and three touchdowns passing and grinded out 42 yards on eight carries with a touchdown on the ground as well. In the loss Matador RB Kyler Degan rushed for over 200 yards giving him over 3,600 on the season and he rushed for three touchdowns giving him 72 on the season and tying him with six-man great DeWayne Miles of the 1995 Amherst team for the most all time in a single season. Follett’s next opponent will be Jayton for the 1A West Semi-Final game. That game will be played Thursday at 6pm at Amarillo Highland Park HS.

Jayton defeated Grandfalls-Royalty 66-52 in region two DII action as the Jaybirds continue their Cinderella season.  Tye Scogin rushed for over 300 yards and scored seven touchdowns on the ground for the Jaybirds who are back in the semi-finals for the first time since 2006.

Strawn rolled up over 500 yards of total offense as they steam rolled past Iredell easily 68-22.  For the Greyhounds Tanner Hodgkins rushed for 201 yards with four touchdowns on 13 carries and Julian Fraga added 133 yards and three TDs on 10 carries as well as 76 yards and two touchdowns on three catches in the victory.  They will take on Oakwood Thursday night in Alvarado at 6pm in the 1A DII East Semi-Final game.

Oakwood outlasts Richland Springs 66-56 to advance to their first ever state semi-final berth.  Key Davis was a renaissance man for the Panthers as he rushed for 167 yards, three touchdowns, caught three passes for 85 yards and scored all three times, recorded 11 tackles, and converted three PAT kicks.

McLean defeated White Deer in a rematch of district opponents 45-0 to advance to their first semi-final game since 1990.  Technically you could say the first time ever since that 1990 team had to retroactively forfeit their games due to using an ineligible player.  RB Ben Crockett carried the ball 22 times gaining 171 yards on the ground and scoring three times for the Tigers in the big mercy rule win. Crockett was also a beast on defense recording 11 tackles, three for losses, and two sacks.  The Tigers will take on Garden City for the 1A DI West Semi-Final set (as of right now) for Saturday at 2pm in Levelland.

Garden City beat Balmorhea 48-14 in a rematch game from non-district play earlier this season. The Bearkats defense was a force all night collecting nine total offensive stops, including forcing four turnovers, against a tough Bears offense.  Raul Almazan led the Bearkat defense in tackles with 24, Cesar Chavez was in on 18 tackles, picked off two passes returning one 52 yards for a score, and had a fumble recovery as well.  Offensively RB Amando Alegria was a key player for the Bearkats as he racked up 157 yards and scored two touchdowns on just 11 carries.

Milford beat Union Hill 51-38 in the battle of the Bulldogs thanks largely in part to 7 Union Hill turnovers, 6 INTs and 1 fumble recovery.  Damyan Woodwad was responsible for picking off four passes himself.  Taron Smith had another solid night completing 13 of 20 passes for four touchdowns and rushing for 106 yards and two TDs on nine carries, he also recorded five tackles intercepted a pass on defense.  Milford’s next challenger will be Leakey who they will meet in the 1A DI East semi-final game Friday night at 7pm in Burnet.

Leakey won out over Gorman 68-36 in a battle of six-man new bloods. Leakey, in their first season of six-man, is now 11-1 and advancing to their first semi-final game since 1975 when they won the last 8man state title in Texas high school football history. The Eagles were 1-9 last season playing 11-man. Hunter Williams rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns and added 94 yards passing for the Eagles. Trace Lackey scored three touchdowns as well, two rushing and one receiving in the victory.
